My house has a lot of recessed lighting. The bulbs in the livingroom needed to be replaced so I bought the new compact florescent spot bulbs.

I don't like them!!! Mine are on dimmer switches and now they do not dim. Add to that there is a warm up time on these bulbs so when you turn them on, it takes a couple of minutes for them to completely illuminate. As if that wasn't bad enough, there is this low humming noise that is irritating.

I want my old bulbs back!!!

How about dimmable LEDs instead?

You can thank the environmental wackos for it.
Not saying I don't use the new bulbs or try to conserve - but we should have the right to make our own choices.

Florescent bulbs can't be used on a dimmer switch. I would try the LED bulbs.

Totally agree.... I hate all these CFLs, and the reality is that very few of the light bulbs in my house CAN be replaced with CFLs. Lets see: I've got *candelabra style bulbs, on dimmers
*Three way bulbs
*recessed flood lights, on dimmers
*Candelabra style bulbs, not on dimmers
*ceiling fan bulbs, on dimmers
*vanity bulbs (the round ones)
* small round bulbs (like the vanity ones, but small)
* small halogen spotlights on a track fixture, on dimmers.

Never seen CFLS that fit in any of these scenarios. That leaves approximately three 'regular' lightbulbs in my house that can have CFLs in them.

Can anyone tell me if these types of bulbs are available in CFLs? I know I'm supposed to switch but I'm NOT going to replace all the light fixtures in my house, and I can't find the 'right' kind of bulbs that are CFLs. It can't just be me.

You must not have looked very hard because I candelabra CFL's, round vanity CFL's, I use the round CFL's in my recessed lighting that are not on dimmers. You can put LED's into your track lighting and any lights with dimmers. They are actually more environmentally friendly then CFL's too.

Let's see at $65.95 per bulb, and I need 8 in my livingroom, that comes to $527.60!!!

LEDs? LOL. The dimmable flood light bulbs for my recessed lights are $75 each, I'd need 6 in the kitchen, 4 in the bathroom. Yeah, no. I'll keep buying regular bulbs at $3 each.

My DH just bought a couple for our kid's rooms, fan/lights (not floods..so different price). I know he would not have paid that much, though he will pay a premium for lightbulbs that save energy and don't need to be changed often. He got them at Home Depot.

He's been keeping an eye on LED pricing and the prices have really started to drop as more people are opting to use them. You may have to wait a bit until they are at a price that is comfortable to you, but keep looking.
