Floor Requests at WL: Avoiding Smoking Floor

I know that I've seen the answer somewhere...but cannot seem to track it down now. I'm calling in today to make our room requests (crib, bedrails, bunkbed, etc...) and wanted to make a general room location request...I know they say floors 4, 5, and 6 are preferred...but is one of those the smoking floor? We most definitely need to avoid that one!

We were in the north wing on the sixth floor after Thanksgiving 2003. It was definately smoking. The room smelled and walking through the halls smelled. It was the second time we were given a smoking room when we requested non-smoking (Poly conceirge the year before). Never again. Both years we had wonderful views and arrived on Thanksgiving Day. We were told in both cases that there was nothing else available, and we didn't want the hassle of moving to another room in a couple of days. I must say that at the Poly the only place I could smell it was in the hall and only in late afternoon and evening. At WL we found the maid sitting in our room one day having a smoke!

Thanks! I thought I remembered hearing that the 6th floor was the smoking floor...but couldn't reverify that. It's funny...the UG lists a lot of rooms on the 6th floor as "derisable"...but doesn't bother flagging smoking rooms.

Whether you're a smoker or not...knowing where they are is quite important! If you're a smoker...I'm sure you'd rather avoid the quarantine line outside the hotel...and if you're allergic to it as I am...you want NO part of it.

When I have a Woods View booked I request North-Wing 5th floor over looking the otter pond. (only a portion of the sixth floor is smoking optional these rooms are located in the far North Wing) out of 728 rooms at the Lodge only about 30 are smoking optional.

If you have a standard View booked the rooms near the Lobby on the 6th floor North are no where near the smoking optional section but still have great views of WISHES at night.

Thanks for the info...we are booked into a "standard" room...so I assume that takes us out of the running for requesting a "woods view"? Does the standard view mean that we must be in the main lodge section? No matter where we end up...as long as the room is clean and there's no smell of smoke...we'll be happy I think!

Most standard rooms are located near the main porton of the Lodge, but don't discount a free upgrade, the Wilderness Lodge is famous for them.

That's weird, we were in 6039 and it was non smoking and I never smelled smoke in the hallway at all :confused3

Beckie,

We have a standard room booked, too, in Dec. I wanted a room off the lobby for the holidays, so I figured we might as well get a standard. So, are you saying the 6th floor rooms above WCC are non-smoking rooms? Are these the rooms that have a good view of the fireworks, too? Do they have a full balcony?

Thanks!

This is the information we have posted over on page one of the WL FAQ Thread.
The STANDARD ROOMS: All Non-Smoking rooms with 2 Queen Beds.
Located on Floors 4,5 & 6. On the North(MK) side, they face the service area. There are also 4th floor rooms that overlook the lobby and look out to roof peaks.(these are over Guest Services) All the rooms do have balconies or patios.
(Some of the standard rooms are on the north side but over look the service area driveway this is where trucks deliver supplies to the Lodge, but they also face the MK they are not over WCC but are down the hallway before you reach the second elevator that is next to Roaring Fork)

WOODS VIEW: These rooms are located above the front desk on floors 5 & 6. North side woods view rooms are on floors 1-6 and face the "otter pond"(a handful face MK). Floors 4,5 & 6 above Whispering Canyon are Woods View Lobby rooms.

You wouldn't have smelled the smoke because you were down the hall and around several corners from where the smoking-optional rooms start. If you rode the elevators next to Roaring Fork and got off on the 6th floor you may smell the smoke as those rooms from the mid-way elevator back toward Bay Lake is the only section that has the smoking optional rooms They start at Room 6034-6004 the even #'s are woods view and and from Room 6031-6005 odd #'s rooms are Courtyard Views.

Hope this helps...also the lodge will upgrade Standard Views to Woods View very often and most guest don't even know they have been upgraded. So they will post I had a standard view that over looked the otter pond. When in fact they had been upgraded.
