We arrived in our room aat the CR about 3 PM and were headed out to DD about 4. Walked out of our room, Tower MK view 10th floor and heard a torrent of water - looked across to the other side and water was pouring out of what looked like a maintenance room with pipes on about the 7th floor. I heard a water main broke on that side of the tower. It was coming down like a water fall, going through the roof of the Outer Rim lounge. The ceiling tiles were falling off, it flooded the whole Outer Rim lounge and started working it's way into the Concourse Steakhouse. I was amazed at how quickly the management got people organized, pulled all the furnishings out of the Outer Rim, and redirected people into Chef Mickeys. Strollers were lined up against the Outer Rim - some were starting to float so employees ran and grabbed them and got them into Chef Mickeys.

My 10 year old was amazed at the whole thing - what a mess. When we got back tonight at 9:30 the water was all gone, the bar was setup in the lobby, and the carpet thouroghly cleaned. All ceiling tiles were picked up from the floor as well. Several rooms on the 7th floor had doors open and it looked like they were being thoroughly cleaned - not sure how much water damage they sustained but am hoping the poor people in those rooms were compensated.

Despite all this, we are really enjoying the CR though we arrived only at noon today. We had been in the Poly, Rapa Nui, and though nice, my husband is impressed with the CR decor and the fact we just viewed Wishes from our balcony.

hi, hope there's no lasting effects of the flooding. sounds like management is on top of things, though.

you mentioned seeing wishes from your balcony. were you able to hear any of the music and storyline, etc. from your balcony? thanks for your time.

Wow! We were just there last week! Glad we missed that excitement!
My 6 yr. old daughter and I absolutely loved the CR! We loved sitting at a table in the Outer Rim watching the monorail and enjoying the view of the lake. Chef Mickey's was too awesome for words!
:wave2:

Oh, well, Oh, well....that sounds like a terrible experience for the guests and employees at the CR. I'm sure it didn't make anyone's day. However, 'stuff' happens. That could have happened anywhere. I'm sure Disney compensated those mislpaced guests, either by placing them in another equivilant or better room or a refund, maybe a free dinner, replace ruined belongings, etc. BTW, I'm just wondering about the guests' damaged property. I assume Disney would compenstate them, but are they obligated to do so? Would that type of loss be covered under homeowner's insurance? Would trip insurance cover it? Just one more thing for the truly paranoid to worry about! If there is such an insurance, I'll be the first in line to buy it. I read about an insurance policy that kicks in if your insurance co. goes out of business. Wonder how to buy that?

I am just so glad that I did not have to see any of that. I had a pipe break in my ceiling 4 weeks ago, and just got through getting my house back together after having the floor torn up in my kitchen and dining room. Seeing that would have just been too much for me right now!:earseek:

first thing my 12yo DS said when I told DH and him about this thread was.......SWEEEEET!! and TOO COOOOL!!!!

amazing what makes their worlds turn! (pre-teens)

We totally enjoyed our recent CR Tower stay and are looking forward to our return.
Shame this happened though on someone's vacation.
Hope they were all compensated for this.
And, it would seem that the Outer Rim will be getting a new
"face-lift"?::yes::

travellady...glad to see that you're not letting this spoil your vacation!

And I totally agree with your DH...viewing WISHES from your balcony ROCKS!!!
You feel as if you can reach out and touch the fireworks!:teeth:

Have a great time!

yikes! we're checking in to a tower room at the CR next Monday. I hope everyone that was there was okay, and there wasn't too much damage!

The same thing happened in the North Garden Wing last August when we were there! I woke up in the middle of the night and thought someone was in the shower, but finally realized it was coming from the hall. Opened the door and saw a waterfall right outside our room. Ceiling tiles were falling all around us. They weren't as organized then because my husband had to call a couple times and tell them the hall was flooding until someone finally came to see what was going on. Many people had to be moved to another resort because it went into alot of rooms. Luckily we started picking our things off the floor right away so nothing got ruined. It was a mess.

Thanks for an on the spot update. You get the news here on the Dis sooner than anywhere else.

What a site that must have been! Glad everyone is ok and it sounds like Disney has everything under control!

Have a fabulous trip!:bounce:

Slept in late, just showered, and my DS and I had to look first thing at the Outer Rim. It's still roped off from one end to the other but they are busily working - painters tarps around the bar area and piles of new ceiling tiles stacked up. Also looks like they are continuing to work on the carpet. Looked over at floor 7 and can't tell much although there were two managers looking around at the floor and possibly in one of the rooms.

When I commented to my 10 yo DS how quickly they moved, he said "But this is Disney". Gosh, I wish they'd moved like this when we remodeled our kitchen. :D

This hasn't ruined our vacation at all, not only did it not affect our room, it kept my son occupied for well over an hour yesterday after getting back from BB. But I do feel bad for the guests in the rooms it did affect, not sure how that's being handled.

Francie - regarding Wishes, we could hear the music though faintly and no storyline. But also, the wind was blowing quite hard so could have affected the sound.

We are looking forward to staying at the Contemporary Tower this October . . .it'll be our first time there.

How awesome is the view from the balcony? We also put in a request for the 10th/11th floor MK view . . .

How are the beds?

Have you walked to MK yet? How is the Food n Fun Center?

:hyper:

The view is awesome - we are on the 10th floor, close to the end furthest from the MK but still can see the castle plain as day. Loved watching it turn colors last night. Also enjoying the boats out on the bay and the overall activity all day long. We haven't walked over there yet from here - we stayed in the Poly first and did MK Sunday evening so took the monorail. We plan to walk over this evening after getting back from Kennedy Space Center. The walk looks fairly short - I wouldn't even bother waiting for the monorail.

Gotta go and get breakfast.

The beginning of the week was muggy - in fact had Thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. Heard it was going to get colder so went to BB yesterday - cloudy then until about 2 when sun broke through and probably about 75. Kept the park uncrowded so no complaints. Today was really chilly - windy and high 60's - wish I had worn long pants instead of shorts :( It's supposed to be warming up to low 80's by weekend and staying dry - fingers crossed.

Most of the bar is now open - amazing how quickly they got this finished - all new ceiling tiles too!

Time to head to bed - Epcot tomorrow and then off to Universal on Friday. The week is coming to an end all too quickly.

Yikes!!! There is another post about some problems at the California Grill. We will be at CR Tower Club in 2 weeks. We had a lot of problems with our reservations. hope the aggrevation we went through for them was worth it. Hate to be moved somewhere else. Keep us posted. Jay

I also remmeber someone posting a year or 2 back of a pipe bursting in their room right above an open suitcase also at the CR.
