Flip Video camera

I was looking at the Flip and the similar offerings from Sony and Kodak for the parks as well instead of our huge 10 year old Sony camcorder. I looked at the features and storage. I don't want to bring a laptop, zoom was limited so those were cons for me. The size was pro. I ultimately ended up buying a Canon FS200 camcorder last weekend and have been messing around with it during the week and so far I'm pleased with it. Yes it's bigger then the Flip but it gave me some features I wanted and I was willing to accept the slightly bigger size then the Flip or Kodak. It was just over $100 more than the non-HD flips but it was worth it to me.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has one of those flip video cams and how are they on vacation? I am thinking of getting a video camera of some sort, and since the flip cams are not as expensive I am thinking of getting one. I'm not getting as much back from income tax this year with changing jobs I'm not as financially set as I had hoped. What I'm looking to film is clips inside rides such as Small World, Pooh, etc. and some shows like Lion King.

I was also wondering about the Flip. My daughter is looking for a in expensive little video camera. With this Flip, can the videos be transfered to DVD? Also, Can you delete clips at the end of you vacation if there is a section that you no longer want?

I looked at them and unless I am missing something they have no Optical zoom only 2x Digital zoom. Major deal buster for me.

my sister has a flip and it works great. when the sanyo xacti cs1 comes out next month that's what i'm springing for. it has a 10x zoom and some really cool other features.

Sony has a "Flip-style" that also has an optical zoom feature. It's a 5X I believe.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has taken a Flip MinoHD, Bloggie or other pocket camcorder to Disney World and has video to share or a description of how the video/audio looks. I currently have a five year old P&S that does video, but it's not the best of quality (lots of noise, both in the video and on the audio) and I was wondering if the newest generation of pocket camcorders would be a substantial improvement. I know that the pocket camcorders do not produce the level of quality that a full camcorder would, but I was wondering if they are better than the video that comes with a P&S. I'm especially interested in how they do shooting the night time parades? Thanks!

I'm wondering about this too! I have a p&s that does some video but I'd like to get a pocket camcorder for an upcoming trip and wanted to know if this would be an improvement and what type to get. I've heard lots of good things about the flip cams but not enough to completely sell me on it.

My 12 year old son got a Flip Mini for his birthday this month and has made so many movies we are calling him Cecil B. DeMille. The quality is much better than the video option on the P&S and the ability to edit them and add music is great and very easy on the flipshare software.

We haven't taken it to Disney yet but he did take it to New Orleans over Spring Break and got some good footage of the Mississippi River at night.

I was a little unsure of this but it has turned out to be great. My parents got it at Costco for $129 and it records 60 minutes. You just plug it into a USB port to charge. I think my husband wants his own!;)

Last November I took my Kodak Zi6 with me to Disney World and it worked great. The Zi6 has been replaced by the Zi8 which I think you can get for about $180.

Below is a video my wife shot while we were riding "It's a Small World". It's fairly dark in there so we were pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Oh, and I don't have a high enough post count to put a link in here but just put the www in front on the link below and it should work.

I have the Flip Mono HD and my mom has the Flip Ultra HD and we love them! We have not taken them to Disney yet, but we did take them snow skiing in February and they work great!

I don't have anything upload to the internet to share right now, but I will work on that...

The differences between the Mino and the Ultra.
- The Mino is about 1/2 the size of the Ultra.
- The Ultra uses rechargeable batteries or you can use AA batteries. Mino when the battery is dead you have to charge it. No spare batteries.
- The Ultra has an underwater case! Great for pools, snorkling, keeping the sand out, snow...

Those are just a few that I can think of right off the top of my head. We have not noticed any difference in the video quailty between the two.

The only down side I have notice is when recording while skiing down the mountain at 15-20 mph the video looks a little jumpy. I will try to get videos uploaded to show you what I mean.

I am impressed with the low light level capibilities indoors at night. Everything look super bright. I imigine Spectro would look wonderful using the Flip.

I also used the Flip during my son's band concert in the gym and was super impressed with how it picked up the sound! Like I said we love the Flips! :thumbsup2

I have a Flip Mino, its not the HD version but I am in love with it. I actually won it last year when I wrote a review for my Be-Book (e-reader). And it got the Flip Mino delivered to me on my birthday :goodvibes:

Ive filmed my Disneyland Paris Big Thunder Mountain ride with it :)
Here is the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez0SJ-qjShI

Remember that the HD version got a higher pixel rate.

Find out whether you can swap memory chips (you cannot on the Flips).

It's not until you go on vacation that you run into this problem. Almost nobody can unload the camera onto a DVD so you can keep on taking video so you would need to bring your laptop with you to unload onto.

I own a FLIP ULTRA HD and use it for all of my videos. I love it! Slick little camera and BEAUTIFUL quality.

If you want to see what the quality looks like, here's a Disney World vid I did.

Omg, Your video is brilliant!!!! You're so funny! :lmao: Very very cute! :cutie:

I've just had a kodak zx1 for an early birthday present (ready for my first trip to Disney hehe) that's just been delivered to my boyfriends house today!! wooo  Haven't had chance to play with it yet though lol

My DH would like to get a new camcorder, we have an old big one but we are interested in a new small one. Can anyone suggest a good camera that is not too expensive. He has been looking at the Flip video but dose not know much about them. :goofy:

I've got a Flip and love it. I keep it in my camera bag all the time. It fits in a pocket easily and 2 hours is certainly plenty of space for day to day use and the quality is great. Couldn't be easier to use (its big selling point).

I shot this clip of one of the NASA Solid Rocket Booster Recovery ships returning to port with my Flip a few weeks back:

Another plus is replaceable rechargeable batteries. When you wear out the ones that come with the unit, buy another pack from most places that sell Flips and replace them yourself. No sending it off for service.

Disclosure: I work for the company that recently bough Flip (but dont work in that division).

I have an old Flip (one of the originals) and love it. It's just perfect as we don't shoot a ton of video, but it's nice to have for little snippets.
I want to get an HD one this year - but our old one works great!
