I guess If I was going to wear one, it would be sandals. I was never a big fan of the water shoes on my feet once they were wet. But obviously that is just a personal preference and either would work if you prefer not to go barefoot.
I wasn't a fan of water shoes growing up, so I haven't had them in years... I used to go barefoot always. But last summer when we went to our local waterpark and I went barefoot I spent a lot of time hopping around trying to get out of the sun my feet are not as immune to hot pavement and just walking on concrete in general as they used to be when I was growing up, going barefoot all summer. So I can't decide what to take!
I prefer barefoot, but if you really need something, flip flops are better unless you really love the feeling of walking around in shoes filled with sand
Aqua shoes worked great for us, and are highly affordable at big chains like CVS. I also use them around the pools, to avoid the risk of catching plantar`s warts.
We have boat shoes, they look like athletic shoes, but are made just for the water, boating. They do get sand in them though. We have worn them to the water park, but some attractions will not let you ride with the shoes on. so then you have to take them off and hold them. We normally just wear flips and go from there. For kids water shoes... the kind that you can cinch up.
I generally like either Tevas or Water Shoes and I'm not super fond of walking long distances in water shoes. Crocs are entirely too slippery to walk in (Flip Flops especially). My Tevas at least are strapped on tightly.
Water Shoes are tighter on my feet, but again, I wouldn't want to do distances in them. I have big feet so wearing ill-fitting shoes (and they're all ill-fitting on me) for lengths of time is not a great idea.
I wore water shoe at the waterparks but they became uncomfortable after a while. My kids all like being barefoot, and they said they did not have a problem with there feet burning. However I mad them were shoes in the restrooms.
