I'm a little nervous about using those flimsy little yellow luggage tags that came with my cruise docs... They seem like they'll fall right off! It's hard to believe they will still be on after I check my bags in Boston, then connect in Atlanta, then on to MCO. Do the DCL reps at the Orlando airport at least ask you how many checked bags you have, so they know how many they should be looking for? I know this whole check your bags at your airport and have them show up in your stateroom is supposed to relieve stress... but I can't help but worrying that my poor tagless bags (after the tags fall off, that is) will spend the entire week going around and around baggage claim while I'm without clothes on the Magic for a week. Anyone have experience with this? Please make me feel better before I say goodbye to my bags forever on Sat morning! Thanks!

Took a cruise two years ago and the tags are still our luggage. We travel internationally at least twice a year. Don't know why we never took them off, just kind of like them on.

I agree they stay on your luggage forever we left ours on for about 2 years after one of the cruises. Took many flights and many porters handled them in the hotels and they still hung on the bags.

I had one of those tags on my bag from our inaugural DCL cruise in 1998. It just fell of last year and I do use the bag at least 2 times per year!

If you are worried that the loop might separate and the tag come loose, just put some clear tape around the tag where it connects to the handle.

Yet another use for the infamous duct tape......... ;)

(On our third cruise....we had a bag that took the whole day to make it to our cabin....They said the tag fell off.... The next cruise we taped them on so much that the whole bag would have had to fall apart before the tag was missing...)

That's a good idea! Thanks for the laugh!!

I, out of curiosity, tried to rip an extra one we had. Impossible. They should stay on.

i was worried about the same thing when i got my documents yesterday- the tags didn't look too secure to me- but from everyone's post i guess they are- i will just add a little scotch tape to be on the safe side!! :flower1:

Same thing here. It wasn't until three years later when we were getting ready for our next cruise that we had to cut out DCL tags off. They are really tough!

Are you sure you are talking about the right tags? The nice debarkation tags with characters on them do hold up forever and stay secure with the elastic straps on them.

I think OP is talking about the crappy blueish tags given with the docs that barely stay on your luggage because nothing is holding the tag through the slit in it.

Those are the ones I mean... except mine are yellow not blue... just the flimsy ones that come with the cruise docs... with a slit to stick the end through?!?!!?

we had yellow embarkation tags last week on the Magic, and teal/aqua embarkation tags (the ones that come with the docs) in January on the Wonder. Do those colors correspond to the ships, or is there a different pattern to determine the color?

For disembarkation of course each deck has its own color, and I even ggrabbed a couple complete sets last week.

Yes, The colors do represent the ship. The Wonder tags are blue and the Magic tags are yellow.

If you put tape on the tags, please do not cover the barcode. Each bag is scanned on its way to your resort.

Also, If you leave the tag on your bag after your cruise and you later fly back to the Orlando Airport, your bag could be delayed. The airlines just pull off all of the bags with a DCL tag and send them to a DCL sorting area. It should then be discovered that the tag is old and the bag returned to the airline, but that might not be for an hour or so. It would be better to remove the blue/yellow tag when you put on the disembarkation tag.

We have cruised 13 times on DCL and we have never, ever had either the blue or yellow tags come off any of our bags....usually the opposite.....they seem to stay on forever!!!

They are made of that strong, tyvek type material and do hold up really well.

Just to clarify....

So if you are arriving the night before the cruise but not staying at either WDW or the Hyatt inside the airport but are using DCL transfers you SHOULD NOT put the tags on your bags in your origin city but instead collect you bags at baggage claim in Orlando and put the tags on the bags before checking in with DCL the next morning.

Does that sound about right?

And just out of curiousity (because I'm a worrier and someone whose had a bag delayed here and there), if you were putting the tags on the bags and not seeing them until they arrive in your cabin, how do you know that all of them made it on the boat. I suppose you don't, right?

The tags are very strong.
But we have used the Disney Air/ Transfer program for 3 of our 4 cruises.
2 out of the 3 we were missing luggage (tag was still on it when we finally got it at the 1st port)
X-Mas 2002 we transfered in Memphis.
X-Mas 2004 was a direct flight.
For our last cruise we even talked to a Disney Rep at the airport, asked him if the verifyied the # of bags.
He said they did so we didn't worry until we had only 3 of our 4 bags.
We are doing the 14 Repo cruise in August.
Booked Air seperate but using ground transfers.
Will personally collect our luggage and take it with us this time.
Hope you have better luck.

I was just going to add...that we didn't put our "yellow" tags on our luggage until after we arrived at MCO...actually we flew in the night before our cruise and stayed at a near by hotel...that is where we put the "yellow" tags on our bags.. I was afraid if we put them on before we left our home town..the "tags" would be to confussing to the airport staff when they arrived in MCO.
