Flights

Congratulations on the great price! I've never heard of LOT but if they fly the dreamliner they must have some $$ behind them.

My dh flew on the dreamliner last summer and he loved it. He said the air circulation system is so much better than what's on the existing planes.

Personally I am not crazy about connections, but for $1,000.00 I would strongly consider it.

LOT is a Polish Airlines. They don't have a lot of flights to North America unless they are codeshared with another airline. The fly Dreamliners direct to Toronto, New York and Chicago.

We aren't thrilled with connections either but it was going to be crazy expensive to book one way tickets to Prague and Vienna to Toronto. Air Canada Rouge does now fly direct to Prague but their 767 has the same number of seats as LOT's Dreamliner. I think I'll take the more legroom. We also have an almost 3 hour connection time between our flights so we have plenty of time on the off chance our flight is delayed. Also, Warsaw is what the European's consider a "transfer" airport, as is Vienna. They are designed to allow for easy connection between flights.

Flights cost about $850 CAD a person roundtrip.

My agent is booking our flights through ABD now, and I selected our exact seats. I think seat selection is more of an issue depending on what airline you book and whether or not that airline allows advance seat selection. For example, when flying to Germany last year, we could have booked a code-share flight on Lufthansa through United. I could not have selected the seats even if I had booked the ticket myself (that option was not available on the United website). My impression was that Lufthansa was blocking the seat selection.

......

The issue you had with seat selection on Lufthansa is you cannot select seats in advance until 48 hours before check in when you purchase lower fare classes.

Some airlines don't let you pre-select seats on a code share flight. I know Air Canada does not let you pre-select seats if they are operating a code share flight. Some airlines do, KLM and Air France will let you pre-select seats on either airline if it's code shared.

I'm flying a code share with Delta that was booked through Air France, and I can manage Delta's flights on Delta's site, and Air France's flights on Air France's site. The funny thing is, Delta doesn't even *show* the leg from JFK to CFg that's actually Air France. It's like i'm magically transporting myself from New York to Paris on the same day. It all shows on Air France's site. It's lucky that I can manage most of it through Delta's site, because AF's site is horrendous, and you can rarely successfully access seating charts.

Airlines are in partnership groups and it depends on which group your airline is with whether or not you can book seats on a code-share flight. Star Alliance is the biggest with carriers such as Lufthansa, Austrian, Air Canada, United. Generally these airlines are the ones you cannot book a seat on a code-share flight Another partnership is SkyTeam, which consists of carriers like Air France, KLM and Delta. These carriers will usually let you book seats on a code share. This is why you could book your seats for your Air France flight with Delta. I've booked seats on Air France through the KLM site.
