Flights???

I've been to Disney only once and it was a last minute deal, so I've never "planned" a trip. We have a reservation for June 2013. When do you all usually book a flight by? Is there a good time to do this?

I book whenever the flight cost is something that I can live with. I set up alerts and monitor it. If I can get a flight for under $500 I book that day.

This should really be on Transportation but something they turned me onto over on that board was this:

If you put in your dates and destination it will give you an indicator if they think the flight will go down or not... Generally for domestic flights it is 6 weeks and International is 3.5 to 4 months.

wow, that's pretty handy.. Thanks! We always book 7 or 11 months out with our DVC, so knowing when to buy the airline tix is always a big debate.. This will help. . Thanks again..

We have a specific airline that services Orlando that is most always the best price... on opening day of the flights, we usually book for the best price. This is another way to "shop!"

I always wait on booking the flights until I have the discount I want on my room/package - I've read posts from people wishing they could change their dates by a day or two to take advantage of a newly released discount, but the penalties on changing their flights are so high, they can't - depends on the airline, of course.
For June 2012, the % off room rates for early June were released 11/30/11, expiring 2/28/12, and for the last half of June % off room rates weren't released until April 2, 2012. http://www.mousesavers.com/historical-information-on-walt-disney-world-resort-discounts/#codechart

Thank you!! Very helpful. I never buy tix this early (we are within reasonable driving distance if all else fails). The indicator said to wait!

We usually buy 2-3 weeks ahead when going to Disney. Once did it $99 round trip on SWA, but those days are gone!

We always fly SWA and as soon as flights are released for our travel dates, I price them out and watch them daily as they do change often. Once I find a fare I'm comfortable with, I purchase the flights but I keep watching the fares because if they happen to go down, I can get a credit to use on a future flight (which has to be used within a year from original purchase date). Some people find SWA fares to be the lowest on the day are released, but for us (flying out of Chicago), they usually always go down after they are released, so I don't buy right away.

If i were you i would buy when you have a good price. Its all about supply n demand. Near the beginning, the planes are empty and as they book up the less amount of seats are available. Which is common sense. The last 2 trips including this upcoming one i missed out on a price i wanted. I waited because i was lazy and overnight it went up $40 pp. Thats an extra $160 both times that i shouldn't have had to pay. Needless to say, even after i book my flights up until the day i leave I'm constantly checking to see what i would've paid if i waited it out.

It always is more, the longer u wait with scattered seats too.HTH.. good luck

We fly SWA out of Chicago, too and they are always having sales. Some of the sales are a better bargain than others. But by watching the sale prices I can often guess when a sale has the lowest prices. For example the lowest price listed on the current sale is lower than the prices on the sale that they had a few weeks ago.

Some experts think that Tuesdays are the cheapest days to buy tickets. I'm not sure if that is true or not, but I bought mine yesterday and they were really cheap, the lowest I've seen all summer. So it pays to watch the prices.
