We booked our flights with ba a while back and it says you must take the card you used to pay with you when you check in. Last week someone tried to use our card fraudulently so its been stopped and we have been issued with a new one.

Where does this leave us, do you think I need to phone ba and ask or just keep the old card and show that ?

I do feel for you - I had that awful experience last August. Nightmare!!!

Did you cut up the old card yet? If you haven't you can take it with as ID. TBH they use this at the online check in points and last year I just used my passport instead - as you usually do anyway - as my ID method. I had no problems with this despite that it was an internal flight.

Email BA anyway - or phone them and ask them to confrim their response in writing either by post or by email. You could also get a letter from your bank stating the old account details, reason for closing and confirmation that it is closed together with reference to the fact that the new one (quoting its details) is the replacement provided by them. You do NOT need the CCV details amongst that information.

Tbh, I don't think this is really put into force anymore.

I used my mum's credit card to book our flights in May with Continental and at no point was I ever asked for the credit card (or any other card) for any reason.

As long as they have the money paid to them they really don't care where it came from!

Thanks

I e mailed ba yesterday and received a reply today. Thought Id tell you what they said in case anyone else finds themselves in the same position. Sounds like it will be fine, wonder if this means I need to allow a bit more time at the airport ?

I am sorry to know that your credit card was fraudulently used.

For information, when travelling with an e-ticket you need to bring the original credit card used for payment.

If you do not have this, you will not be able to use the Self-Service kiosks or check-in desks. You will need to go to the ticket desk at the airport, where our agents will be able to check your booking and help you to check-in.

You will also be required to present an acceptable form of ID, as per the list below:

UK Driving License.
Executive Club membership card.
Passport / National ID card.
Company works card / ID.

I hope this is the information you require and we look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

You shouldn't need any more time since self check in is compulsory for economy passengers so those points will be taking the bulk of the strain, not the desks. However, if you are like me, you will arrive early anyway. I have always needed help with my self check in. I always seem to choose a machine that isn't operating properly or don't remember which card I used to pay for the flight and then it is like going through a lucky dip of cards to find the right one - which usually generates a response from the staff. ;)

Thank you for posting this! :thumbsup2
We're flying with BA next month and didn't realise you needed to bring the card. My bank cancelled that card on me too (they suspected fraud even though there wasn't any).

I was going to post that they are super fussy with this rule in my experience. We tried to pay for allocated seats after we booked our flights, and they would not accept any other card that the card we made the original booking with. It was a nightmare as the card was an Amex which wasn't used that often and Amex had reduced the credit limit. We had used the card that month for something else, and there wasn't enough spare credit to make the booking. In the end, we had to make a payment and wait for payment to clear before we could do anything.

Glad you have the information you require though :goodvibes

I probably don't need to say this, but be sure to take a print out of the BA email when you check in. That is your fall back if you have a staff member who is being sticky. :goodvibes

Didn't realise you needed to do this either - I suppose I will have to go to the desk as the Bank has issued a new card to myself - booked flights ages ago last year and the old card had expired - expect this happens a lot too.

Glad thats been helpful to some of you, especialy as Ive had such good advice on here.

Yes I will print off the email and take it with us-just in case !

How does this work if you check in online? We are flying with BA for the first time in 4 weeks and my credit card expired a few months ago. When they sent me a new one they changed the number!

You only need the original credit card to use the self service machines at the airport. If you are a member of the Executive Club and the booking is linked to your membership number I think you can use this card instead (it's a few years since I did this though).

If you check in online you just enter the booking reference (or executive club number if the booking is linked). You won't need to enter the credit card details. Just make sure you have BA's booking reference and check in on line. You will need a printer to print the boarding cards though. Then go directly to the bag drop desks.

On the way back I would check in on line and go to bag drop/check in desk to drop the bags and pick up the boarding card (assuming you don't have access to a printer over there).

And yes, take a printout of your e-ticket confirmation with you.

Do check with BA directly though - we were asked for the card I paid with at the check0in desk last October. I had it, and they swiped it to bring up the booking details. I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have it.
