Flights in Oct half term...can anyone please help?

Hi! As the post suggests I am desperately after flights to Orlando during October half term for this year.
I am a huge WDW fan who has suddenly been offered a magical opportunity to fly out and enjoy a week in the happiest place on Earth ... the issues are
1) I'm in my first year of teaching and so am restricted by dates.
2) I've just moved into my very first home with my boyfriend meaning we need to be somewhat cautious with the pennies.
Basically I am prepared to fly direct/ indirect and with whoever in this instance to get fairly reasonably priced tickets in order to get out there!
Having only ever booked a package flying with Virgin and staying in Disney, I am wondering if anybody here might be able to help point me in the right direction as I'm currently just looking directly at Virgin and BA's websites?

As a fellow teacher I mean this in the nicest possible way but if you're looking for anything short of daylight robbery in October half term, forget it. Saturday flights in the school holidays attract a bonkers premium.

My advice is to focus on the longer holidays - Christmas, Easter, summer, and be flexible with your dates. You can get much better deals on flights by adding or removing a day from your trip.

The alternative is to look at bonkers flight times - overnight connections, arrriving in the middle of the night, multiple airlines etc. could all shave hundreds off the price.

Thanks for the reply, we last went in 2010 during my university holidays and were happy with the price we paid for 2weeks at Port Orleans Riverside with the dining plan, etc. This time we have been offered free accommodation (offsite but all the same free so that's great!) but we are fixed on these dates so it is that week or not at all! We had not planned to go back until 2014 so this offer is just too tempting!
I have noticed some suggested websites on another thread and so have looked at those, so far for the 2 of us we could get there for just over £1000 return, not too bad compared to over £2000 with Virgin!

We are flying with delta but had to go monday to get a price I would pay!

Direct flights are stupid money. If you can get indirect for £500 each you are doing very well imo.

Direct you are probably looking at over £1,000pp so close, the best prices will have all gone now unless you pick up a last minute charter flight but they are rare in school hols.
Are you wanting 27th Oct-3rd Nov? from London?
Kayak.co.uk are showing indirect with Delta £530pp
Also check travelsupermarket and other search engines.

Just a quick update as I am very excited to share with fellow Disney fans that I have booked my flights! We are flying direct into Tampa on Sat 27th Oct arriving at 16:40 and then flying back the following Sat 3rd Nov at 16:00 again from Tampa. I am flying out with my boyfriend, my sister and her husband and so we have booked a car to collect and return to Tampa and make use of during our week.

Flights aren't by any means cheap, particularly not for a week but worth it for a week in Orlando! Very excited and will now spend the rest of my summer holidays planning

Thank you for welcoming me but I do have a confession to make... I have actually lurked around these here boards for a couple of years now. Since my first trip as an adult in 2010 and enjoying the QSDP, I have been loosely planning my next proposed trip in 2014 (really want to have DDP and experience a DCL) and have not dared posted until I had an actual trip booked or near booked that I could get really excited about!

Anyway Disney life story over... thank you very much for welcoming me to the boards, I am so excited to be actually posting but please be warned I've got lots of questions to follow if that's okay!

Flight prices in school holidays make me sad
We eventually bit the bullet and paid over £1300 each for our easter flights next year

Sometimes I think if you really wanna go then just go, even f you know it's gonna cost a lot. If it means you'll be there the dates and times you want then fair play, I'd do exactly the same!

Now you have the fun of planning... It's over a year till I go, but I'm still so excited

Yep we weren't far off that price either.

Disney really is the place to be though so now as you say full steam ahead with the planning! It's the best way to make time fly!
