We will be flying in October.
What do they do for flights for minors?? We are flying southwest, and adult tickets are considered anyone over 2 yrs. Do I have to have an ID for my 4 yr old DD? How do they know that is who she is, if not??

Thanks!!!!

Correct no id neeed for the kids. They ususally will look at the ticket and ask them their name. Although my son is 16 and has a DL and he did use it for ID, they never asked for it. He just likes showing it. ;)

No need for any id for a minor, but we have 2 copies of DD's birth certificate - one for the safe deposit box one to take with us when we travel. Just in case.

I always wonder about this myself, how do they know I have permission to fly with that kid, or even that the kid is mine? They don't, and they don't require ID.

That said, if you WANT id, I do NOT suggest a birth certificate that gives information that could be used easily to steal her identity if lost(her full name, date of birth, city of birth and even mothers maiden name, all things used to 'safe guard' our identities are on ONE document.). I recommend if you want ID for your child, to get a state ID. This is something you can buy for your child that is like a drivers licence in 'offical'dom but doesn't allow her to drive.

and in most states it costs less than 20 bucks to get one.

We have only "needed" a state ID when DD was traveling as an unaccompanied minor. It does make me feel better for her to have it, though, in case something happens.
