I'm looking to buy tickets from Newark NJ (Or possibly JFK or Laguardia if I found a good deal) to Orlando - from the end of Oct tot he beginning of November. Right now the flights are close to $200. a person...I can't decide whether to buy now or see if the come down alittle.

What's the best fare you've found from NJ/NY?
What airline? What month was the flight?

Just wondering if I might get something better...

Thanks!!

I paid $149 about 2 months ago. I would definitely wait and keeplooking on expedia, travelocity and hotwire. Make sure you stay over on a Saturday night.

We paid around $200 last year, the same time period. I think it was $199 for the ticket plus all the fees and taxes; through expedia with Delta. I've been checking myself over the past couple of months and found $177 - $184, all depending on what time you want to depart.

Do you feel like driving north? Northern NJ (Paramus) to Albany, NY is less than 2 hrs. We recently booked Southwest Airlines Albany to Orlando direct in November for $89.50 r/t. Plus the parking is a heck of a lot cheaper than Newark, LGA, or JFK. We were going to fly out of LGA (had Delta with miles) but decided to drive a little further to Albany, redeposite the miles and take the cheap SWA fare. I wish SWA would come to Stewart Airport in Newburgh - the fares are great. Haven't flown them yet so we'll see what the airline is like.

I have to disagree that Paramus to Albany airport is less than two hours. It's really more like 2 1/2 hours, without stops, weather or traffic. And if you are travelling on a weekend, the traffic at the Harriman toll plaza can slow you down for up to half an hour if you do'nt use EZPass.

The Albany airport is actually North of downtown Albany by 15 minutes or more (depending on what you consider to be downtown Albany), in Latham.

Just remember with Southwest that you don't get to pre-select your seats. It's first come, first serve, and there's no guarantee that you'll be seated with your party. That includes your kids.

You're getting killed on that time period due to the NJ Teachers convention--I swear half the state goes to Florida then. The fares aren't going to get any better due to the yeild pricing system that the airlines use.

You might want to look into SWF, PHL and ABE as options.

Last year I did wait, and ended up paying $250 on Continental in late August, r/t EWR to MCO.

If you're AAA members, give them a call. We like to spend as much time at WDW as possible and we can't always get the flights that we want from other services. AAA is usually able to give us an early morning flight from Newark and an evening flight from Orlando for under $200.

Hi i paid 109.00 roundtrip for newark to orlando this coming september 6-10.
This was on Continental Airlines.
I know the price has changed since then ( i watch the prices regularly)
But Continental has a habit of changing prices on a day to day basis.

I have personally found Philadelphia to be about equal in price. When you figure in the driving and tolls you really are not saving all that much.

But you may want to consider Atlantic City. I have never flown form ther but i hear that some good dels can be found.

I paid $138 RT on Delta from LGA to MCO 10/20 - 10/28. Booked it about a month ago. Don't pay close to $200! Call lowestfare or go to their website if you can't find anything with the airlines directly. I did not use them this time, but have used them in the past, always with great results.

Good Luck!

I paid $111.50 RT on Delta for a 4-day Labor Day weekend, LGA to West Palm Beach (granted, it's not MCO, but it is Florida). I think you just missed the mini-airfare war that took place about 3 weeks ago.

The cheapest flights I've found are usually on US Air (yuck!) or Delta. I'm flying on Jet Blue from JFK on the day before Thanksgiving, but paid big bucks for that - $289 RT, OW to West Palm, returning from MCO. However, I don't want to deal with LaGuardia on a holiday. They can barely get planes off the ground on a good day.

Your best bet is flying out of Newark. Continental usually offers good fares. The closest airport that services Southwest Airlines would be on Long Island (Islip), which is closer than Albany if you really wanted to drive.

BTW, I used to go to school in Albany. It's 2 1/2 hours from New York City on a good day!

what are your dates? It looks like Delta has some reasonable fares out of newark.

We have phl to orlando for $138 RT, but that is at the end of September. I have found that the prices change frequently. I usually check very early in the morning.

$109.50/pp rd trip nonstop on TWA (JFK to MCO) Sept 21-24 I bought them during the last fare war about 3 weeks ago. Hope they have another one coming up.

Disneykidds, I was actually thinking about driving up to Albany too! We're up in the Bronx, right off the Deegan(87). It's still over 2 hours from where we are. But we've done the drive a few times before (my god-brother lives there) and it's not too bad a drive. On Saturday, get an early start to beat the Harriman (Woodbury Commons) traffic. On the way up, we actually try to get to Woodbury Commons by 10AM, do a little shopping, and leave before the hoards!:p

We were actually planning on driving down to WDW in November 'cause we wanted to move some 'stuff' down to our second home in Miami. But $89.50/pp rd trip around Thanksgivings is mighty tempting! We could visit my god-brother to boot!:)

But 2 things to keep in mind: 1-holiday traffic and 2-the weather.

If you are planning on traveling on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day - OUCH! Traffic will be tremendous out of the city. People start the exodus beginning around 1PM. Wouldn't be surprised if there's traffic from my house all the way to Albany!

There are no highway lights along I-87. As you know, it gets dark very early here in November. If there's heavy snow or rain, it will take much longer to drive that distance.

My Mom and I were visiting my god-brother about 5 or 6 years ago, it started to snow while we were having dinner. We left Albany right after around 8:30PM. While we were on the road, the snow got so heavy, I couldn't see more than 3 feet in front of the car. It was pitch black too 'cause there were no lights. The snow accumulated very quickly. Everyone drove in the middle of the road, single file. Not many cars were out on the road. Saw a lot of semis parked on the side of the highway. Thought about stopping for the night at some motel. But I didn't know what was beyond each gaping hole of an exit, most exits were still unplowed and I definitely didn't want to get stuck. I must have drove all the way home at around 15 miles a hour. Didn't get home 'til about 5AM. Boy was that trip one for the storybooks!

Of course, snow or rain storms will affect all area airports as well as my planned drive south. We just have to plan accordingly. We'll all hope for good weather for all of our travel plans!:)

ducklite - it all depends on how you drive (DW hates how I drive, I on the other hand hate speed limits - even 65 mph). Also, when I say less than two hours I should qualify, it could take just under on a good day, avoiding peak traffic times. As with any travel to any airport it is wise to allow extra time. Whether it is 2 hrs, 2 and a half, or somewhere in between, to some it may be worth it to save $100 per ticket. As for SWA I hope it works out. It is my understanding they board families with young children first. We'll have an infant and a 2 yo so hopefully we will get a jump. In any event, we will be at the airport very early. Thanks for the warning.

Hard to find really good fares out of SWF. I love the airport (20 min from our house) but the fares can be high.

SleepyatDVC - luckily we live north of the city so we avoid some of that traffic. We actually fly out the Friday after TDay and will drive up to Albany the night before. We are used to the Thruway - but lets hope there is no snow!

I am going the first week of Novemeber and I paid $171.00 RT per person. I saw it a little lower at one time but i am happy with that price. Michelle

$88 per person round trip on Jet Blue 9/15 - 9/19.

These were booked a few weeks ago -- I found them by accident when I was actually looking for reasonable last-minute airfare for the beginning of July.

We've flown many times to Florida and this is the cheapest I've ever found (and ever expect to find in the future).

We're going from 10/27 to 11/04/01...Right now I'm finding 180's out of Newark, and 153 out of JFK & Laguardia...Can't decide whether I better buy them NOW or wait another few weeks. Right now they seem to be going up instead of down. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

The best I've seen are Continental, Delta, & Spirirt. I usually check Expedia & Travelocity regularly (and a few others at times). I'm tempted to wait based on what others have gotten for Sept...but of course I'm nervous that I'm going to get burned. *sigh*

Oh, and we're travelling with 2 little ones, so I think I'll skip Albany at this time...
Thanks for all the feedback.

We booked tickets back in April
for our 8/2/01 trip to WDW on Continental for 194.50
per person. 8 days to go can't wait
:bounce:

We booked ours in March for Sept @ 179.50 incl tax non-stop from EWR on Continental. Our flights are up to 205.50 now, BUT if you have the luxury to play with times of the day/days of the week the fare can really drop down a lot. Go to their website and check it out. Saw some fares for 141.50 and I wasn't really checking a lot of combinations.

I'm not going down until 5/02, but am checking flights now anyway. I've gotten on USAir site (long story - but my son was flying alone for a Dad visit & they kinda forgot he was a UM & was on the plane, he walked off the plane by himself - thankfully Dad was right there waiting, USAir acted like they could have cared less) SOOOO would prefer not to use them HOWEVER, all flights that I've seen on lowestfare, qixo, etc. are STILL over $300/ticket with Delta & others. When I lived in Clearwater & came "up north" (South Jersey) to visit, we never paid more than $200 at the most. How is everybody getting these cheaper fares? Are you flying in the middle of the night? Will most likely be leaving from Philadelphia, unless can get better (cheaper) rates out of Atlantic City - any hints???

Hotwire for your dates is $164 a person. Also use code PURNH7TFF1 for an extra $25 off.

As far as May/02, This is way too early you need to start checking after the first of the year for the best rates.
