Hi all! We are planning our sort of annual trip to WDW over my daughter's spring break vacation, Thursday, April 1 through Saturday April 10. I realize it will be packed since this seems to be a very popular vacation time (at least here in the Northeast) since Passover and Easter coincide.

I already have my DVC reservation, but just started shopping for my airfare from Newark to Orlando. The fares are bananas!!! Most (with a stopover!) are running between $450 and $550. I've always paid under $300 for a direct flight. Should I wait it out and pray for a sale or grab what I see now? What do you think?

I have to tell you, that I think you waited too long to book airfare. I booked mine for the week prior about a month ago when SW opened fares for that time period. I'm 30 min from you near Princeton and fly out of PHL or EWR depending on fares. I paid 174 RT for each ticket. Those same flights are now 470 RT. Check SW out of PHL and see what the fares are. Also try Spirit out of AC, it might be worth the drive if it'sd much cheaper. Also LGA and JFK might be cheaper.....

Ever think about Tampa? The prices aren't terrible (not great either) on Southwest for your dates. I've flown from Philly into Tampa a couple of times and its not that bad. About an hour to an hour and 15 minutes from TPA to Disney.

Southwest will save you some money with no luggage fees and no seat assignment fees.

Just a thought.

How about leaving from Long Island? Southwest has some pretty good deals out of there. Nonstops from $360. If your dates are flexable you can save even more.

WE are shocked as well (even tried when flights were released) on the amount of tickets. We fly out of Logan, and refuse to pay 700 pp. We are driving, not ideal but better than spending 2k on flights

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try shopping around a bit a different airports. How is Southwest? I've only flown them once. I'm a little confused by their approach for seating. :confused3 I will be traveling alone with my 10 year old. I don't want any chance that we will get separated. How does it work? Thanks!

the boarding is open seating, meaning you board by number. You line up in numerical order based on the number on your boarding pass and pick any seat you want when you get on. You can now select early board check-in, which costs $10 per person. If you get that, you're almost guaranteed an early number A which would be the first to board.

I think you waited too long. When it comes to Easter week ou tof the NY area, you need to book when they first come out. I highly doubt they will come down. I would look at Southwest.

Flight even with Southwest have doubled for next April. We were (note past tense) looking at doing a cruise out of Tampa or Miami at the end of April. The flight was going to cost almost as much as the cruise (in some instances, depending on the airport it would have been more then the cruise). And this was through Southwest. There's something about paying 1600-2100 for airfare that just this year I paid 800-1000 for that takes the fun out of vacations.

In our location we have Providence RI, Hartford CT or Boston MA and each of them are way overpriced. Even JetBlue and Trans Air out of NY have increased substantially for April. I'll keep trying but if things keep going the way they are, a Staycation may be the next option :confused3

Thanks to all who posted! After two hours of hitting all the different airfare and airline sites, I wound up taking flights with Delta but paying for them with my husband's American Express miles. I had been saving them to use for a trip to Las Vegas for my daughter's dance competition this summer, but these tickets are more expensive than those will be!!!

I have learned my lesson about booking for this time of year EARLY. Now I'm watching the Las Vegas fares like a hawk for a sale that works for travel at the end of June, beginning of July. Thanks again for all the suggestions! :thanks:
