Hi,

If anyone has flown out of Newark Airport (EWR) what time is the earliest time to safely book a flight home from a NYC cruise? I'm waiting for 2023 flights to come out for Oct. and I don't think there are many flights that go to Boston to choose from. The only ones they have for 2022 is a 10:30ish flight and a 4:00ish flight to Boston. I think there may have been other flights and they sold out. Any ideas? TIA. :-)

I would be a little nervous about trying to get to Newark by 10:30. Have you considered taking the train? I believe the Acela departs hourly from Penn station and would get you to Boston in less than four hours.

Are you doing a one way? I would just drive from NYC to BOS personally. If its one way I would just rent a car I can't imagine its more money and it would give you way more flexibility and you don't need to worry about going through security, flight delays, ect.

Heck I bet you beat the flights by just driving if you are in a rush to get back to BOS.

If you plug in your origin and destination at FlightAware.com you can see all recent flight times. This is data collected from actual flight logs.

They are trying to say though how much time do they need to leave between port arrival in the morning to getting on the plane.

Don't limit yourself to EWR, if you can also look at LGA and JFK, there's plenty of frequent service between NYC and Boston

10:30 out of Newark is cutting it close. If there is any delay debarking you won't make it.

Boston resident here~ I would look at the Acela. Also consider other airports other than Newark as mentioned above. They seem to have more frequent flights. And you can also drive. When considering a Bermuda cruise this year, we were going to take the Acela.

Bostonian here - Most times I have a flight from New York to Boston, I fly from Laguardia. They tend to have a ton of flights to Boston every day. Even just looking at flights leaving today, it looks like both Delta and Jet Blue have flights leaving just about every hour.

Hi All,

I want to thank everyone who commented. Once my travel agent gets back from vacation I'm going to have to cancel the Canada HOTHS cruise because Oct 2023 is too far off. My mom has congestive heart failure and A-Fib and has gone down hill quite a bit since I booked the cruise. It's too uncertain how she'll be then. She says she wants me to go and have a fun time so once my TA is back I'm booking a February 2023 4 night Bahamian cruise from Miami. I was originally going to take a VMT cruise on the magic then saw the Canada cruise and that is my dream cruise and booked that. 6 months or so is more realistic to go away. I'm sure my mom will be fine then. She's been feeling a little better the last few days so that's good. I'm hoping one of my sisters will stay with her while I'm gone. In Miami I found a very nice hotel with 4.5 reviews out of 5 on trip advisor. There's a well reviewed Italian restaurant a 3 minute walk from the hotel. I've been craving some really good Italian food lately so I only have to wait until February. LOL My birthday is in February so I can celebrate it on the ship and then with family back at home. Thank you all for the help. I'm going to play it by ear for now. If I have to cancel I will have travel insurance so everything will be covered. I really need this break from real life. Taking care of my mom every day and seeing her deteriorate is very taxing on my mind, body and spirit. I hope all of you have a cruise coming up soon and have a wonderful time. Thanks again.

Shauna :smickey: I have a Sorcerer Mickey T-shirt and ears to match for one of the days on the ship. I've never had Minnie ears before and will wear a different pair and shirt each day. Yup I got the Disney Bug bad. LOL ☺️

I guess this no longer applies to @Iris1974 (I hope your mom feels better soon and that your cruise vacations goes well!), but for anyone who comes along later, consider the Northeast Regional as an alternative to the Acela. It's a bit slower, but not much, and you can often get tickets from NYP to BOS for about $30.
