Flight Question - What would you do

We are coming from South Carolina to DL next February via Southwest Air into LAX (I have a conference there). I have been stalking my flights and they have gone up $73 in 2 days. However, it did this last week as well and then went back down early this week before going up again. My question - would you go ahead and book now at the $73 higher rate or wait for early next week and take the chance that the flights are no longer available?

February is a long ways off you should be fine waiting. I would clean out your browser history-yes the websites know how many times you visit them and remove any cookies from Southwest. Check rates on a Tuesday or Wednesday-those are usually when the cheapest rates are posted.

We fly Southwest a couple of times a year, and if we were in your situation I would book the flight so that it doesn't sell out. If prices go down, you can rebook the tickets and get a credit for the difference that is good toward Southwest flights for a year from the date of initial purchase (but no refund)--and they don't charge change fees. Since we use Southwest often, we can use the credits. If you don't fly Southwest often, you might not be able to use the credits though.

Have you checked this morning? They just announced a sale--it seemed pretty good for the routes we usually take. Maybe the prices will be back down for you.

Good luck!

SWA sales general begin on Tuesday and end Thursday or Friday. Sometimes they have longer sales, but not this week!

I would wait until Tuesday, book it and if prices drop you can always re book and bank the credit!

Is there a way to see how full the plane is without booking? I am really nervous about waiting and there not being 2 seats.

Southwest is the one airline I always wait until close to the date to book. They run great sales and I have never had issues with them selling out unless it was holidays OR really last min; so I just wait until the sale dates and watch closely. An example. Two weeks ago my flights were 113 each way, last week they ran them for 49!!, now today the sale was 73.

That said; their changes/exchanges are super easy if you do need to make a change and they don't charge you anything.

never seen a SW flight sell out so far in advance. The difference with other airlines is that you are not trying to book 2 seats together, you are trying to get 2 seats anywhere - so it is a lot more flexible. I would try next week and at that point just get tickets in case prices go up yet again. And keep watching for fare drops.

Wait until Tues. We just booked for next month and it was a big difference between Tues and Wed.

I book Southwest all the time. Lately I have found Sunday to be the day to purchase. It used to be Tuesday. Crazy trend. With Southwest, you will notice that your flight time will go up and stay up. That means that they are selling, but, not selling out. When a flight with Southwest "sells out" you will notice that the cheapest flight will be "unavailable."

Southwest usually has good sales in the Fall. I would wait and watch a bit longer (couple of weeks) before purchasing. I just watch the trend and then book at a low price. I then keep watching and if it goes down, change to the lower price and get a voucher. This last trip, my DD and I flew rt to LAX for around $12 using our vouchers that were going to expire (a year from booking). The thing you need to remember is that the vouchers are "non transferable". Southwest changed this a couple of years ago.
