Hi all,

I know that no one can give me a definitive price on flights for July 2015 because they're not released until 11 months out, but I just wondered if anyone could share with me how much they have paid in previous years for flights end of July beginning of August.

I know there are a lot of teachers etc. that have to go in the summer holidays so I wondered what prices have been like historically to make an educated guess. My DS, BIL, Nephews and mother want to go in 2015 but they're terrified of booking with Disney without flights in case flights are insane. I've explained it's a risk that you take but it would help me, help them if I could give them an idea of what the prices were like for this year in the flight sales and at 11 months out.

TIA all :thumbsup2

To fly direct from Manchester with Virgin economy on a Saturday I would budget for 1k each adult. You will see them for both more and less than this. I would be pleased with £700 if I found it. But I'd budget 4k for four adults. I am lazy though. I will only fly Virgin and only from Manchester. I'm not what you'd call a flight hustler!

Last time we went in the summer was 2012 and we got Delta glitch flights for £515 each but I know that is not realistic. I figured around £700-£800 each but I'm just interested in hearing what people actually paid this year.

Last year (August 2013) we paid about £900 each including a mid size SUV. I did find them cheaper after and cried though!

We always do Fly Drive in the BA Flight Sale but we go in October. This year we got fly drive direct from Gatwick on BA for £1700 for 2 adults 1 child!

Relatives are going end of July this year, they wanted direct, VA were £1000+
I managed to see a deal with Thomas Cook direct from MAN to MCO for £2,295 (2 adults & 1 child)
Many people this year have got flights across to Ireland, PE from there were around £700 or Upper class for around £1,000pp(via LON or MAN), just had to buy a 1 way flight to Ireland then flying back to London or Manchester.
Others like myself have booked on Orbitz.com and paid in $'s using a fee free credit card, saved about £200pp compared to paying in £'s with UK agent.

Great, thanks Wayne. They stress and worry too much to be honest! They're ready to pay far more than they need to because they can't stand the idea of waiting for flights.

We are in the same boat, looking for flights from Manchester for August but weekday, happy to go indirect so hoping that will bring the cost down a little!

We have some friends going this July and they paid over £1000 per person for flights, I will try and ask them for a more exact figure if I can.

We're going on the 17th of July this year from Manchester to MCO, we paid £770pp and are flying with Thomas Cook. Would've loved to to go a few days later but prices increased by £200pp!

Flights tend to spike around beginning of August to mid August. You can usually get cheaper deals towards the end of July and then again towards the mid/end August.

If you think about it, a Virgin rep told me that early August is effectively bang smack in the middle of our school holidays, so is always going to be peak pricing. There are cheaper prices to be had if you can find them - but it is a case of looking and looking - if you have the time and inclination.

Thomas Cook are looking reasonable for next summer but don't fly from our local airport sadly! They've been out a few weeks so not sure about the prices now though.

I would say budget £1,000 pp but then hope to get it for less. That way I think you'll manage and can give others an expectation.

Just a thought, you do know you can book some chartered flights now for 2015 - like Thomson and Thomas Cook. Obviously fly drives are available too if any good to you, but Virgin and BA prices seem silly now - some have been out since end January, so the cheaper prices have gone - may return in a sale or something though...

We bit the bullet and booked Thomsons first day of release back in April (in fact it was the same day we booked WDW with WDTC). We wanted local airport and we are happy now it's booked and sorted :). One less thing for me to keep checking - as I am the organiser for all 6 of us!!

Virgin want £1700 for the Easter holidays this year (Sat to Sat) -:lmao: - so under £1000 sounds like it's as good as it will get with VA....

Is indirect an option?

EDIT: My bad, those were the LGW flights. It's "only" £1450 from Manchester!

I have been looking too, Easter is crazy money! Only time we can do 3 weeks as Summer is too humid for my little man, we have really struggled out here now, it's so hot and humid!

I had hoped to go next Easter after having vowed not to go back after constantly getting rained off last summer. Then when they announced free dining our Easter holiday dates weren't included (they had been this Easter) so I have ended up booking up for July 2015. Virgin flights from Glasgow next Easter for 2 adults, 2 children (14,10) are coming out at £5,109 with no car hire. Options are so limited in school holidays.

Indirect at Easter coming in around £550-600 :thumbsup2

For us, VA makes no sense. £1000 more per person. If we go indirect, we have an additional 7 hours journey time. That's already a saving of £143 per person per hour to sit in the airport. Then, you take off the hour needed for immigration and customs, so that's 6 hours extra time total - saving now £167 per hour. Plus, it's an hour less travel time in the UK as we don't have to go to LGW or MAN - so that saves another two hours - meaning we are now saving £250/hour to sit in the airport. I can do that for £250/hour. Each.

Kath- would you mind sharing where you found those prices. We are looking to fly next Easter for the full Easter hols dates (3-17 April) and I can't get close to that even indirect. Am more at £700pp. Ideally we'd fly back from miami as getting off cruise there but are willing to be flexible.
Thanks so much!

I booked direct with US Airways for £645 for Sat-Sat (14n) flights. They are open jaw too as we chose not to fly home from MCO which added around £50 BUT they are the week before your dates. I will have a look for your dates, though...

Thanks for looking for me and for the PM. I had seen the TAP flights but wasn't sure about the long layover in Lisbon on the way out- it's an overnight and we'll have our DD5 with us. Guess we could make that an extra mini hol and try to see some of the city.
£645 is a great price for open jaw- I may be brave and stick it out to see if I can get something similar into MCO and out of MIA.

The TAP flights I saw had short ish connexion times (2-3 hrs), nothing overnight. For under £550, that's pretty good. I also saw US Airways had a BA Code Share into MCO on 6/4 and out of MIA on 17/4 for £710 DIRECT - the catch being that you leave from LGW and land back at LHR :confused3

That's great- thank you! I'll take another look this eve. Maybe I was going stir crazy trying a million different airport options, as we do! We are up in Leeds so will be factoring in travel down to London if required but well worth it at those prices. Thanks so much!
