Flights are up over $100 from what we paid last year.

Anyone having luck finding reasonable flight prices and, if so, how far out from your departure?

I got mine for under $300 roundtrip with nonstop flights each way on United about five weeks out from our trip. Denver to MCO.

Got ours for $219 nonstop round trip on Southwest (that's how much they were if we paid cash but we booked using points). I bought them Jan 17 for our May trip from Indy.

We are flying Southwest March 4th too 18th Buf to tpa and mco too buf. They have NOT dropped this year. This is the most I have ever paid. And i caught the flight down, the only one that dropped at $132.00 out of 12 flights at 6:30 am. Its crazy.

We are in Louisville Ky, and couldn't find any flights for a reasonable amount. We decided to go through Cincinnati (non-stop flights) and got those for a bit over 400 rt, each. I don't consider those a bargain, but it's a bit less than we would have paid here for one stop flights. I didn't start checking until about 3 months before our trip. I now know that there are always inexpensive flights between Cincinnati and Orlando if you just sign up for the proper notifications. Live and learn!

We got great prices for our flight down last week and our flight back last night
But I found awful prices for our April trip so I had to look back to Southwest. Booked them about a month ago for great rates ($49 each way)
I keep checking for flights out of our local airport but they are $600 a pair, round trip, compared to $200 a pair.
Not happening. I'll pay $100 to save the 2 hour drive but not 400

I got great prices from Boston to Orlando for June on Delta. $228 round trip and first class was only $400. I did notice that Delta tends to drop prices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

We are flying out of DET Metro (I also looked at Flint). Nothing direct from SW. We paid $187 with Delta last year, but right now the rates are $290.

I've heard that too, but so far no luck. I keep checking (and clearing cookies/search history).

I've definitely seen higher prices this year compared to last. We go once to twice a year to Disney and this year we had to fly into Tampa due to the flight prices. I got 2 SWA direct round trip flights for $483. I purchased mine in December at like 6am soon as the calender updated.

Flint only has non stops Sat and Sunday. Did you try Grand Rapids?

I did read an article at the beginning of the year that said airfare in general would be going up this year.

Flying out of PHL paid $228 each roundtrip last year on SWA, this year $266, not real happy. And best price I could get on American was $347.

Flights do suck! I decided to take the kids out of school for 2 days so that airfare was $2200 less than if I went full on the break. $2200 less!

@kristenrice - we are about 45m/an hour away from Metro. The flight prices from GR would have to be amazing for us to tack three hours onto our drive (and they aren't). We've looked at Flint, too, but they are usually more there as well.

@chiisai - that's nuts!!

We fly from Buffalo too. We paid about $170 round trip in December on SW. Both ways were nonstop- early flight down, evening flight back. I am still waiting to book for early May. Right now the early nonstop is $157, evenings are 157 & 132, so round trip would be almost double our Dec prices. There are some $105 flights, but they are late flight down, early flight back. SW seems to have changed their strategy about pricing.

We book SW or JetBlue, they have the only nonstop flights to Orlando from Buffalo. JB changed their times, their nonstop is no longer early morning. Their flight to Buffalo is now the early morning flight & then they return to Orlando & get in there at about 2:30. Those times seem to waste both my arrival & departure days, so we won't book them, even tho we prefer JB over SW. SW does have several nonstops every day. I just need to get my mind around the increased cost this year.

If driving to Indy is worth it to you, we often fly Indy to MCO on Southwest for about $200 pp round trip.

Thank Goodness someone else noticed and I am NOT going insane. We also flew down sw buf to mco dec 17th at $79 and home Dec 29th at $102.00
We have flown March the last 8 years. This may end up being the hardest year I have had with booking. I booked march 4th back in Oct buf to tpa at 2:00 pm ( later then i wanted) but at $112 and thought when the others drop I will change it.
I just booked March 18th home last week. 12:45 pm buf too mco. The only flight that dropped that day. ( we are flying home with friends) we needed 4 seats for us and 3 for them. We got 6 at $157. And 1 at $187. Have not seen them drop again. My girlfriend booked march 11th too meet us there she paid $199 and caught the 2 seats 3 days later for $132.00 again only flight that dropped. I could have flown from Toronto for $438 but already had my $112 booked. They have certainly be screwing with us this year. There is 8 non stop flights coming back on march 18th. I wonder if they will ever drop. Frustrating.

I was just about to suggest the same thing. I live in Indianapolis but I look at prices out of Chicago, Cincinnati and Louisville regularly. I'd definitely make the trip if I was going to save close to $200+ per person.
