Flight Prices in August!!!!

Once upon a time if you were going on a scheduled flight there wasn't too much difference in price between the months. Now I can't get flights to Orlando any cheaper than £560 to £650 per person in the Summer holidays. Of course the flights drop by hundreds of pounds early September. I have no other choice than to go then. Has anyone any ideas where else to try. I have used all the usual web sites. Thanks

We had the same problem last August(2003)
Are you going towards the end of August - we found crowds manageable, although the weather was a bit wet.

You could try an indirect flight. On Expedia, Delta are doing Gatwick to MCO via Atlanta for £625. Virgin direct from Gatwick to Orlando is coming out at £729

Another alternative is Travel City Direct or isn't that new airpline flying from Birmingham starting flights next year? - "Blue" something or other??

Unfortunately Tim it has to be at the beginning of August 9th ish until the 24th ish! Before the days of widespread internet use it was only the package tour prices that used to shoot up at that time. It didn't seem as if the American owned airlines changed their prices too much for that period because August was not the peek time for American family travel, as their schools were going back. However they have obviously learnt that just as they go back the UK go out, and with everyone making internet booking these days there are rich pickings to be had. Hence the enormous price hike. I'm stuck with those dates, but £650 per ticket is horrible!

Like you I'm generally stuck with August too and the prices are horrific aren't they?

I spent hours and hours of research and the cheapest I got was through Bon Voyage flying direct with BA from LGW to MCO. It was £2200 for 2 adults and 2 children. However I booked early so this may not be still available
