Anyone think prices of flights will be going down any time soon? (I know this is a general opinion question )

We just returned from our first cruise in June. Our flights were about $280 per person. So in our excitement we booked our second cruise for Feb 2007. We have been checking flights and they are already up to $400 per person. If gas prices keep inflating I don't see how we could possibly afford to take this trip. Driving I guess is an option but that takes out four days of our trip and we were already cutting it short because of the kids being in school.

I hate thought of canceling this trip due to the price of gas :confused3

I dont know first time paying for a flight
(work sent me to arkansas once and I didnt care how much it cost)

but I got a $59 PP X4 one way down on southwest now the return flight is at $109 PP Im hoping it goes down before I buy (return dec. 12 or 13th) I have lots of time from now till then

but in my opinion (some prayer to) yes prices will go down in general (not holidays)

I am hoping SW will come down a little when they release Feb dates, and then maybe have some decent DINGS. I have to fly 7 people to and from Orlando at the beginning of Feb, and then I am flying back alone at the end to go on the DCL with my cousin.

The airfare as it is now is going to hurt. Badly. :guilty:

FWIW- I held out and got DINGS for our September trip and ended up paying $382 total w/ tax and fees to fly 3 people round trip. :teeth: So I am hoping for the same luck for Feb.

It's a craps-shoot. Anything could affect the market, driving it up or down. There's no way to foresee which way things are going to go in the medium-term.

I bought our early December tickets in April for $1030. I just checked again today and a similar flight (couldn't pick the exact same times anymore) is $2000.

My MIL got her flight two days ago for $178...every time I checked for her it was always $278...it's with Airtran, so I am not sure if it was a special or what.

If you see a great price grab it! It is tough to know. Travelocity has an area that you plug in possible travel destinations for a fare watch. They will notify you when the price changes $25 or more either way. I went to Tucson this summer and was watching and hoping to catch a great fare for my husband. It never went down -$500 :sad2: . Our airport is a regional airport which affected the price. He didnt want to use the vacation time to drive to a bigger airport. That usually is an alternative to get a better price. I have gotten some good price changes this weekend $130 lower for that market so maybe we will see a trend. I hoping with the latest incidences in airtravel that the airlines open the market a little...who knows.....

During the past couple of years I checked every day and waited till the price dropped to where I was able to book our flights.
As soon as I saw the price go down to my buy price, $500 round trip total for the 3 of us, I bought the tickets.
I'm doing the same thing this year for our April '07 trip to WDW; I'm planning on driving but hoping to get a decent airfare using the different web sites at www.onetime.com.
Driving 23 hours wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be with our 3 year old. although i'd rather fly than drive, doing the 12 hour airport shuffle is no bargain.
Good luck all,
Joe
