Hi! DH and i booked a very last minute trip for this December as a surprise for our kids! The dates are dec 16-20.. expected to be just before true Xmas crowds arrive but still probably very crowded.

We were not able to get a FP for FOP, but we did get one in the evening for Navi River Journey. Our plan was to go to FOP at rope drop, then head to Dinoland and make our way counter-clockwise (FP’s for EE and KS) and then end again in Pandora for the evening.

However, a few things are making me nervous about this plan. First off, we realized now it’s morning EMH that day. We are staying onsite (WL) but DH is not much of an early riser. I don’t see us realistically being able to get there earlier than 7:30, and even that would be pushing it. Is this too late to even attempt RD on an EMH day? Or try to hit it on our way out?

Thanks!!!

We have never had a FP for FoP and we’ve been on it no less than 5 times. I’d go midday or dinner time. You might still wait a couple hours, but it will be shorter than the 4 or 5 hours at rope drop (if you are not at the front of the line) or the rush of people running to ride it at closing.

ETA: check the app throughout the day as well. If you see a lull in wait times jump in the line.

Just before park closes like maybe 15 before, get in line. Once the park closes there are no more fast pass people and the line moves.

Ok great. So our FP window for NRJ is 6:55-7:55.. so we can do that, hang out a little and get in line at 7:55? As long as you are in line by 8, you are good, right?

Thanks.. what do you consider a “lull” ha? Wasn’t sure what the best case scenario is.

How long do you think the wait will be at that time? Worried about keeping the kids up too late.

Watch the app for a few days to get an idea. For Navi, you might luck out at under an hour. For FoP 2 hours. You *might* be able to score a 4th fp for navi, it's not entirely unheard of.

We went at rope drop. We got there at about 7:30. Once we were let thru to get in line for FOP we got on the ride within 25 minutes. We went on a day that did not have EMH.

I did rope drop this morning - 7:30 arrival to the park, was first at our turnstiles and ended up spots 2 & 3 on the first ride of the day. We were off by 8:55.

I actually found the rope drop experience to be really pleasant - BUT, we were able to walk quickly and stay at the front of the pack. We had lovely chats with other people in the queue and cast members. However, I also did not turn around to look at the mob behind.

We’re going to try and ride again at the end of the day.

For another data point for you - we couldn’t resist going back again today in the late evening. We joined the line at 7:20pm (park close at 8pm) with the wait time at 150 minutes - we were in the first pre-ride show room 72 minutes after joining the queue, and I’m so glad we did it because we saw all of the queue area that we missed when we were whizzed up to the front of the ride during the day.

Rope drop can be the busiest time of the day for this attraction. I checked one day last week and the wait times were up to 210 within 10 minutes of park opening. The waits were down to 30 within 10 minutes of park closing on the same day.

Just keep in mind that posted wait times are intentionally exaggerated at night to discourage late riders.
