I need to fly from Chicago to Knoxville to meet the rest of my group then fly the following day to Orlando. On the return trip, 4 out of 5 of us will be flying from Orlando back to Chicago.

Of course I have to make getting there as complicated as possible!

Are all one-way flights really my only option? Is there a better way to do this?

I don't know if this is possible anymore but years ago ( 1990s) I read a book called Europe Through the Back Door. In there they talked about this system called open jaws where you fly into one city and fly home out of another. Might be something to talk to a local travel agent about especially if you can find one who does arrangements for businesses who only travel on a rare occasion so they don't have an in house person to handle it since it doesn't make sense for once every 5-10 years.

Well, I feel dumb. There's a "multi-destination" option on basically every site. I've only ever needed to fly round trip before so I never considered that would be a standard offering!

And also check it out doing one-way tickets, including Southwest (assuming it's ok for the group to fly into the other Chicago airport). You may get a better price and/or flight times by choosing different airlines.

Not sure about other airlines but on Alaska two one way tickets is the same price as 1 round trip.
