Hi All,

Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom.

Fairly Newbie flyer here ... we usually travel by car and fly rarely.

Also ... please excuse this double posting ... I'm going to also post these same questions on the Canadian Forum. Thanks for your help!

1) Would like to depart Vancouver: July 1 (preferred) or June 30, 2017

2) Any hints or tips on how to get "best" rate for flights from YVR to LAX (Vancouver International to Los Angeles International Airport)?

3) Which Airline do you recommend and why?

4) What was your cost for 1 ticket? When was your flight? This will give me an idea of what kind of "good" rates I should be looking for.

Thanks again! :-)

Use a site like https://www.kayak.com or https://www.google.com/flights/ to see what your options are and get a price idea. Those sites search many airlines at once. I will usually then go book direct with that carrier once I finds the best option. Too many gotchas when booking with a third party site.

Do not limit yourself to just LAX. SNA and LGB are MUCH better options to fly into if schedule and price makes sense.

I fly an employee from YVR every month or so. Typically Westjet is the cheapest, though not always. They also fly to SNA. Fares are usually $300-400, but I've gotten them as low as $240-ish. I've spent over $1000 when we've had to. If you see a fare under $400 available now and you're firm on your dates, I'd buy it because it's a holiday weekend.

i fly from Yeg-SNA (orange county airport) with a lay over in Vancouver !

i would look into westjet (where i seem to get the cheapest prices) and look at both LAX and SNA airports !! i personally prefer SNA !

Sign up for deal alerts for both Air Canada and West Jet. I prefer West Jet because they've always provided the best customer service and they don't overbook like Air Canada tends to.

West Jet does fly into SNA, but it looks like it might not be every day. I know when I was looking for my flights (YYC to LAX), it was a longer overall trip to SNA and we were already connecting in YVR. Since you are looking at a long weekend/holiday, I'd book sooner rather than later. We booked for spring break in October and direct flights from YYC to LAX were sold out except for the very highest fares. Also, the closer the flight is to being sold out, the more it will cost. That's why if you feel you see a decent to good deal, book it!

I'm flying YYC to SNA with a layover in YVR on June 10th with a June 16th return. We're flying WestJet and just booked two of us round-trip for under $600 including all taxes and fees. I love the app Hopper it tells you when to book and when they think fares will go up again. I'd say around $300/person roundtrip is defintely a good deal and anything under that is a steal!

Have you thought about flying out of Seattle instead? Even with Exchange we have always found it way cheaper. We fly with jetblue into longbeach, or if southwest has a direct flight we fly with them to sna (with free check baggage). Both of those airports are closer and smaller than lax which means you get to disneyland faster and cheaper. We always drive in the night before our flight after work/school and stay in one of the hotels that have longterm parking.

We fly YVR-LAX quite a bit. Generally, LAX is the most convenient - I like Orange County, but only WestJet flies there and the price can be a lot more. Worth it if you get a seat sale.

The best app for checking flights is Hopper. It will send you notifications, etc, and tell you the best days to fly out.

We fly from Victoria and always go YYJ-SNA. Check out Alaska Air as well as Delta. As for getting the best price, I prefer to pay in Canadian funds so typically end up booking on expedia. Our next trip in April is on Delta flying YYJ-YVR-SNA and I paid around $900 CAD for three of us.

Southwest can be really cheap but getting to Seattle is always expensive for us since we have to get off the island and that adds at least $200+gas and time.

If you are booking air and hotel, I strongly suggest *at least* looking at Westjet vacation packages from YVR to SNA. Online, you'll only see packages to LAX (because it defaults to the cheapest packages they have) but if you call, you'll get the the SNA prices too which isn't too much more than the LAX price but you are so much closer (Or you can look at WestJet vacation packages to LAX)

We booked YVR to SNA direct. 5 nights at Courtyard by Marriott Theme Park Entrance and we added on the Canadian Resident 5 day park hopper. All in after tax was $1000 per person. Given that the same flight if booked outside of a package was $670pp, this was a great deal.

Edit: I just checked my planning stuff and the direct flight from YVR to SNA was $670 pp (not $600). So basically, hotel and park tickets cost $330.
