Flight departure time from IAH

Hello!

My husband and I are embarking on the Eastbound Panama Canal this year and I'm concerned about flight times.

First of all, does anyone know if Uber operates from Galveston to the Houston airport or should I look into getting a taxi or even port transfers through DCL?

Second, I'm concerned about flight departure time. I was thinking about booking a mid-afternoon flight to get us to the airport with plenty of time but I've been reading a few reports about fog in Galveston sometime delaying ships. Is this a regular occurrence and should I consider booking a later flight?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Ok..my experience. After talking with a local Enterprise agent (only car rental on the island) Uber is NOT allowed at all on the island. We had arrived in Galveston 2 days early for our cruise and took a private car service to the port from IAH. While in Galveston I wanted a car so I made a reservation with Enterprise to pick up and drop off at the local office. They picked me up from my hotel (Hilton Galveston Island Resort) and then drove me back to my hotel when I dropped off the car. The one-way cost from IAH to Galveston for the rental would have been cost prohibitive. The local daily rate was only $85 for a minivan and we split it among 3 couples.

We had a 6:05 pm flight out of IAH this past January for our Galveston DCL cruise. We got fogged in day of debarkation and the ship had to stay a few miles off shore as the Port Authority closed the port to all ship traffic. We did not dock until after 2:30 pm and were finally off the ship and in our shuttle to the airport until after 4:15 pm. We just barely made our flight on United. I actually called from the shuttle and asked about a later flight but they would not change me until if and when I actually missed our flight. Luckily we made it to the gate just as they were boarding. It was like the scene from Home Alone! We were some of the last to board.

Here we thought we had TONS of time to kill at the airport with a 6:05 pm flight but things happen!!! Again, this was in January when fog is more common.

On a happier note we did debark in Galveston in 2015 from the Panama Canal cruise and had no problems. We had a mid afternoon flight on United. We took DCL's transport for that one.

Check out the Galveston Shuttle. They will take you to Bush or Hobby. 30-35 per person. DCL transfers only go to Bush. We've always had an afternoon flight. We've never had a problem with Fog cruising in early Dec. I would think you'd be ok in November. It seems the fog problems happen mostly in January. As far as uber or a taxi I'm not sure. It's a pretty long drive from Galveston to Bush. It takes about 90 minutes so cost could be high.
