Went to the expo today and got a great deal on Virgin Aust from Syd to Lax - $5126 for 3 adults and 1 child return! We fly out 8/9 and return on 9/10. We had to be flexible with dates, but there are worse things in life than having to spend an extra few days at Disneyland:rolleyes1 The flight back is on Delta but at that price I can suck it up, lol.

I am so happy to finally have our flights booked:banana:

That's great Liz! I'm glad it was worth your while to go to the Expo.
You leave exactly one week before we do :)

Was the Expo crowded?

Andona

Yaaay glad everyone is getting their flights now! Quite a few of us will be over there in Sept/Oct.

It was very crowded. We got there just as it opened (didn't plan it, just coincidence) and there was a long line that moved very quickly. We went straight to the VA stand and they gave us a brochure with fare specials on it and directed us to the Flight Centre area. They have different counters set up for different suburbs so if you do buy there you can finalise everything locally.

After getting a few quotes we went for a walk to think it over and to let 7 yr old DD have a play in the park to let off some steam, and the TA rang me with a better price. I had almost settled on Qantas for $6005 (still a bargain), so we went back and booked. By this time it was jam packed and I was glad to get out of there! Now I am trying to decide what to do with our extra days. I'll tag a couple onto our DL stay, and I'm thinking of maybe a couple of nights in Huntington Beach or Newport....any opinions?

It does seem like Anaheim will be full of Aussies in September!

I'm shattered, it's been a long day.....goodnight, sweet dreams:angel:

Hi. I also booked our Mel to Lax airfare today at Flight Centre with VA - 4 adults for $5120. Had to leave a day earlier and leave at 7am instead of 11am.

I am also exhausted and confused. Had a gin and tonic when I came home.:thumbsup2

Flights were disappearing very quickly! Have to buy internal flights Lax to Mco return. I can sleep a little easier tonight.

Might go and have a look, we're looking for flights for 2 adults 1 child in October and what you paid is about the prices i've been getting for the 3 of us...
And VAustralia are great to fly with :thumbsup2

Gosh you all did well but it sounds so stressfull having to make quick decisions like that! I'm terrible when I feel under pressure to decide so I really admire you :)

LizfromOz - Thats exactly what we did as the expo. glad we did too.

I found it stressful having to make decisions on the spot. But I went with the plan of if it was under $6000 for the 4 of us on the airlines I wanted I would take it! She also wanted us to look at accomodation, but I wasn't prepared for that and we also had another 3 days to factor in so had to think about it.

It was also very crowded and I just couldnt be bothered lining up with the holiday people to look at accomodation.

I don't know if I should just go ahead and book accomodation online or see what the TA can do now that we've worked it out. I'm also thinking of booking some we know we will need but leave some at the end of the trip until we're there so we can be flexible.

Kangarucci - I just noticed your ticker! are we leaving on the same day? we're going on the 22/9.

ExcitedsamThat's the day we embark on our first cruise. We are actually flying out from Mel on Sept 19.

I went to Flight Centre today to confirm flights and pay in full,(had to be by today). All up 4 adults Mel to Mco return $7048 plus 4 x $20 vouchers for price beat internal flights Lax to Mco return.

I heard one of the consultants say that there were 17,000 people at the expo in Mel yesterday!

Well....after having a change of heart on our dates, I phoned today and changed our flights. We now fly out on the 14th September and return on 10th October. We will only be away for one more night than we had originally planned, so I'm pretty happy with that. The price is the same as my previous dates. Everything is sorted and I went and paid today:thumbsup2 No going back now!

The good thing about booking at the Expo is you don't have to pay on the spot, they put your seats on hold. I don't think they have the facilities there to process payments, so if you change your mind (like I did:rolleyes:) there's no harm done. To be honest, the whole thing stressed me out, but it was worth it on the end.

Sam, I'm booking all of our accommodation myself online. I find that you get a good rate booking direct with the hotels, and if you see better prices online, ring the hotel direct and most times they will beat or at least match it. Good luck, at least the most stressful part is out of the way:cool1

:woohoo::woohoo: Congrats to finding a great deal and being booked is such a relief to know your dates and organise yourself :woohoo::woohoo:

Oh well that's okay then - I thought you had to book and pay in full on the spot :scared1:

Wow well done, great price.

Glad you guys got some good deals. I was tempted to go down and price Hawaii but I decided to save my funds for spending money for this trip and hope they have a great sale later in the year.

After spending several hours at Flight Centre on Saturday to hold flights, late afternoon they phoned to say that the flights were no longer available :confused3,BUT, we could go a day earlier and get a great deal! :goodvibes

Sunday, I went in to pay and waited for quite a while, and my consultant went through everything and I signed on the dotted line. I went home and BPaid as it had to be paid for that day.

Imagine my horror, when at 11pm that night when I was checking details on the VA website that we were actually booked on Delta planes, codeshare. :scared1: (I had stipulated that we must be on VA planes)

Not at any time did my consultant say that we were flying on Delta planes nor on the paper work does it state that we are on Delta planes, it has VA beside the flight numbers and states flying with VA on top of the page. I felt like vomiting. :furious: No sleep that night.

I sent off an email to the consultant that night, knowing that she wouldn't be in Monday, but at least notifying them that I had found the error. Next morning we faxed the email through, although I later discover that they only check the fax if they are expecting something- go figure!

I went into FC after work and of course they couldn't help me until my consultant comes back on Wednesday! We are screwed. :furious:

Oh my goodness, that's dreadful! Our TA made sure we knew that we were flying Delta on our return journey - she even told us again just before she put our credit card through.

I'm sorry that your excitement has turned to anxiety, I hope everything gets sorted out for you :flower3:

:eek:I hope they get it sorted for you i personally wouldn't be waiting till Wednesday they should be able to change it for you in the first 24 hours whether the consultant is there or not.
Good luck with it all

I can understand that you are upset about not being made aware of the Delta part. Hopefully you can get it sorted.

With that said, Delta is a wonderful airline and we have very much enjoyed our international flights with them.
