Hello everyone! I just found this site, I am so excited that our family will be visiting DisneyWorld for the first time this summer! I am super excited and I'm in planning overdrive already! :)

I've got all the major things covered I think, except for our flight. We are in Ottawa. Our kids are young so we would prefer a direct flight over driving to Montreal or Toronto. (BUT, we are open to a stop over in Toronto)

From my research, it seems that the only airline that offers direct from Ottawa is Air Transat. Is this correct? I can't get any info from their site though because it seems as if they only have flight schedules available up to April.

Can anyone offer any advice to us on

1. direct Ottawa-Orlando flights
2. cheapest providers
3. when we should book our flights (we are booked into Disney for the end of July/beginning of August)
4. typical discount offers that come up from the airlines for the summer

Are you close to a border??? This year we are boycotting flying from Toronto as it would have been close to $3000 for the 5 of us. We are going to Buffalo where we got direct flights for less than half of that! Is that an option for you at all??

Not close to the border at all unfortunately, it's quite a distance.

I'm guessing you are close to Ottawa as you are looking for direct flights from here. We usually drive from Ottawa to Syracuse to catch a flight. Yes it's almost 3 hour drive but it usually saves us hal fthe cost of airfare. for our August trip, we paid $1500 for the 5 of us to have a direct flight from Syracuse vs $2500 from Ottawa and it wasn't a direct flight. Just a thought.

OP, we are in the same area. DH really hates flying, so we take the train to Dorval and fly from there. There are direct flights through Air Canada, though of course the prices are pretty high.
IMHO the Montreal airport is far less crazy to get through than the Toronto airport.

My wife and i always fly out of ottawa. There are direct flights and sometimes they're quite cheap, you just have to check everyday as prices change quickly.Transat, sunwing,AC and westjet,to name some.We go back in april and it cost us 650 with one stop, there and back to ottawa. We prefer doing customs here in ottawa and get it over with,so we usually fly american

Another Ottawa flyer here...
We've flown out of Plattsburgh NY (3 hour drive from downtown Ottawa) and gotten flights for $135/person return including taxes. Similar fares out of Syracuse (also 3 hour drive) have been seen as well. If you're really looking for a deal that's your best options.

In July and August there aren't any direct flights between Ottawa and Orlando. AC and WJ both fly that route during the winter but not the summer. Closest place for a direct flight is Montreal.

A great site for looking for flights that require connections is www.hipmunk.com. They rate flights based on "agony" (mix of layover time, departure time, cost, etc). It'll show you all of your connection options. Lots of US cities you can connect through which is preferable to connecting through Montreal or Toronto when it comes to clearing customs.

My sister lives in Ottawa and has flown from Plattsburgh to Lakeland airport with DirectAir and she said everything was great. They have a $79 one way sale inc taxes which ends TODAY! You will not find anything close to $158 rt inc taxes from Ottawa I am sure.

A 2 or 3 hour drive just to get to the airport isn't worth it for us. We always fly from Ottawa. That said, the only time we've gotten direct flights is in the winter/spring. None available in the summer. We fly into a US city and then to Orlando. We prefer to do customs in Ottawa before we leave and then upon returning home. This trip we're flying US Air but we've flown United many times as well.
