We are trying to arrange a trip to Florida around Feb. school vacation week (Sat. the 16th to Sun. the 24th). We would be visiting relatives with a day trip or 2 to Disney. My concern is how expensive flights are around that time. I can pull DS out of school for a couple of days if it would really make them them cheaper, but am unsure how to get the most advantage out of that - 2 days before, 2 days after, one on either end, flying or coming back mid-week?

Anyone who has done this before, what got you the biggest difference in price?

Thanks in advance.

We go to Florida every year during President's week. This year we are flying out of Boston on Tuesday February 12 at 6:00 PM. My boys will be missing 3 days of school. We come home on Wednesday, February 20 at 7:00 PM. These flights are non-stop on Delta and we paid $179.00 per person. We booked these flights back on November 2. I was just checking flights yesterday on kayak.com for my aunt and there were still some decent prices for these same dates. Around $197 - $222 for nonstop on Jetblue
Use Kayak.com to research flights. Plug in different dates you'll see that the closer to President's weekend you fly the more expensive it gets. If you can be flexible you'll get a better price.
Good luck!:)

Go to Orbitz.com and put in the dates you want to go. There is an option on there for +/- 3 days before after. It will give you a grid of all the prices for each day.

Mid-week and Saturdays are generally cheapest. Monday, Friday and Sunday are usually the most expensive. Try Air Tran. We have always had great luck with their pricing and love them in terms of customer service.
We have never been anything but 100% happy with them. They are always my first choice if given the option.

Thank you for the all advice, everybody! -
We did use the kayak.com sight, which found us an AirTran flight, and we're going!!!!! (It hasn't even really sunk in yet.)

It was so much better than what we were looking at before! And DS will only miss 2 and a half days.

So I just wanted to say thank for the help. - PollyannaMom:yay:

Glad you were able to book flights!
We'll be there February 12-20 and are really getting excited too!
