It's great to see our navy/military guys here on shore leave. I think some of them are so young & green, they are more afraid of NYC than being in combat!


Our city turns into a sea of white uniforms. I always want to ask them, in such a sooty, grimy city, HOW do they stay so white?

I always wonder that too... especially after a day in the city.... how do they do it??

Five years ago, a buddy of mine and I met up with a bunch of Marines during fleet week at one of our favorite midtown bars. After 5-6 too many cocktails and a lot of smack talk, we ended up taking them to the Hustler Club for an All-American thank you from the city of New York. I vaguely remember we treated them to the first round of lap dances, but after that, the evenings a blur...

He got a tour of a ship after talking to a sailor and last year he got the sweetest picture of a navy man in his dress blues walking down the street with his twin daughters who were all dressed up...

Yeah, my wife looked at me sideways when I got back to our apartment at 3 am this morning, drunkenly explaining that the reason I was late was "for the troops", but she knew she had to excuse it. It was fleet week, damn it!
