Fleeing Wedding Showers for Epcot Flowers: My Final Morning, Finally! NEW 4/12

After our morning at DHS, we went back to our gigantimongous (yes, I did make that word up) room to freshen up. It was around 2:00, and it hadn’t been cleaned yet, so we called for housekeeping. Then we ventured over to Epcot.

Ostensibly, we strolled around the World Showcase. But it was HOT. Not August hot, but unseasonably warm for May; in the 90s, definitely. So in truth we just hopped from shop to shop (a.k.a., from air conditioning to air conditioning). We did manage, however, to appreciate some of the awesome F&G topiaries along the way. My mom gardens a lot, and she was amazed by the massive quantities of truly gorgeous flowers all over the place—Epcot’s beautiful all the time, but during F&G, it really blows me away!

How romantic!

Our plant prince looks a little less romantic close up, doesn’t he? Something about the nose…

Aladdin’s outfit lends itself well to shrubbery.

Not plants. Obviously. Air conditioning. Actually, this photo creeps me out a little.

Pluto will protect us from the creepy Hello Kittys!

Again, not plants. Patriotism.

Gardening helps Minnie stay in such good shape.

These two may have been my favorites.

They’re just so darn cute.

The Chinese gardens displayed a plant-version of each of their calendar animals. I’ve always been happy to have been born in a Year of the Dragon—cuz what could be cooler than that?

And speaking of dragons…

Something soothing, to calm you down after the dragon attack:

My blurry attempt at artistry.

Not too shabby looking, for a Viking. He needs a haircut, though.

In Mexico, I bought a little Oaxacan rooster for my sister. I also bought a T-shirt in Japan and a F&G pin somewhere or other. Typically, I’d post pictures of these things, but I’m feeling lazy. Sorry.

We really wanted to do more, but we were just too hot. So we decided to head back to our room (for wine, naturally).

Even just walking to the International Gateway seemed exhausting, between the sun and the sweat and the humidity and the fact that we’d done a lot of walking already that day. So we made one last AC stop, in the UK toy store.

And thank goodness we did, because who should we run into but Tigger and Pooh!

Now, there’s something you need to understand: we are not character people. You’ll never catch us standing in line for an autograph or a photo. So when we encountered them in the back room of the store, our first impulse was to turn around and leave. What if they were busy? What if there were children—who care about them so much more than we do—waiting to see them?

But there was no one there. No one in the entire store, for that matter! So their handlers insisted we stay.

This resulted in (drumroll please): Our first character pictures in the past twenty years (at least)!

In each of these photos, my red eyes indicate I’ve been possessed by a demon or something.

A Disney-loving demon, obviously.

1162777726_CMUhC-L.jpg

I think Pooh’s coming on a bit strong in this one.

1162777056_axBum-L.jpg

Tigger accidentally knocked my shirt & bra straps off of my shoulder! How naughty! Of course I had to give him a hard time about it; he “blushed” and looked appropriately contrite. Pooh was shocked when he found out!

1162778504_AznTT-L.jpg

I forgave Tigger—we all know he’s a troublemaker, after all, he really can’t help it—and we were all friends again.

Seeing them was such a fun surprise! It totally made our afternoon, and revived our heat-worn selves. With a new bounce in our steps (a little Tigger-harassment will do that for you), we headed back to the BWI to relax and get ready for dinner.

Love the F&G pictures. Makes me want spring to come now. Okay, truth - the -30 degree wind chills make me want spring to come now too - but the flowers are really fun too.

How fun that you got to meet Tigger and Pooh - I think its fun to meet the characters when they're bored. We've done that before too. But we would never wait in line either. Just not our thing.

Have fun on your trip! I'm so bummed we're not going tomorrow.

what a fun update! And that Tigger...

I know what you mean about the heat of the walk. Even though you are so close, when it's super hot, it still seems REALLY far away and for some reason we always felt the most melty right in front of Canada.

Go figure.

So YAY for the toy store!

:rotfl: great picture commentary!! My personal favorite was of the Viking ship.

It's funny, Joe and I NEVER did characters when Henry was a baby (or prior to that--we knew there would come a day when we would do characters -- and that day is HERE!), but on one trip when Henry was still tiny we encountered Pooh and Tigger back there with no line - and the same thing happened, the CMs insisted we stay! It was such a fun meet.

LOVE the character pics!!!! :lovestruc

All the plant pictures are freakin awesome!!!! I soo wish we could go when these were up....but you've almost got my hubby convinced to allow me to do a solo trip!! :thumbsup2

Can't wait for the next update!!!

Yeah, I've heard from my parents that it's been brutally cold in WI lately. Brrrrrr. It's bad enough out here. Once Christmas is over, I really hate winter.

Have fun on your trip! I'm so bummed we're not going tomorrow.
Thanks! I can't believe I'm going back in just a few days...I haven't had much time to think about it this time, so it feels kind of unreal to me! I just hope it's not cold and rainy while I'm there...I'm sick of precipitation!

Yeah, it felt really rough for some reason. It probably doesn't help that my mom and I are both stubborn about walking...we'd gone back and forth so many times that day, but we'd still never consider taking the boat!

 Time for a little "Pooh lovin'" looks like.
:lmao:
I know, right? That expression on his face...it's Pooh's bedroom eyes! He was hitting on my mother; I should've beat him up or something! :rotfl:

I guess unexpected character meets are the best! I guess I feel the same way you do...once I have an adorable little kid in tow, then I'll want all those character pictures! :goodvibes

Really?! Hooray!! I hope it works out, going solo is soooooooo fun!

Thanks so much for sharing, I am loving your TR.
Your pictures are stunning! What type of camera are you using?
Again, thanks for sharing!
Of course now(voyeur that I am) I want to see wedding an dhoneymoon pics;)
BTW, what better way to spend a mellow Friday evening....watching/listening to a Behind the Scenes Disney vid and reading a great TR:yay:

Loved this update Nory!:thumbsup2 Tons of great pics too, I'd really love to be at Disney during the Flower and Garden Festival. It looks gorgeous and I love how the characters are worked into the plants and shrubs. Too cute! the China pavillion ones were amazing. And I agree, this one is adorable:

Ok, I'm thinking you and your mom should've filed an indecent behavior complaint about Pooh and Tigger! What on earth was going on?? I wonder what the photographer was thinking? Great pics of you and your mom though.:thumbsup2

Don't you love all of those little wooden creatures in the Mexico pavillion? I bought the armadillo one last trip because we watched that Mickey Mouse clip in the hotel room about a million times while there! It's actually the one in your pic, at the bottom right, with the orange and white coloring:
1161256465_QcFcu-L.jpg

And I'm about to cry, accuweather now has predicted rain for at least 4 of the days we'll be there.:sad1: Seems like it's changing by the hour now!:headache:

Thanks, hotcarib, and :welcome:

I use a Sony DSC-HX1. It's a superzoom, and I like it a lot...but I hope to graduate to an DSLR in another year or two!

If you really want to see some wedding pics, I should direct you to my last TR (link in my siggie) -- there's a link to some wedding pics in the Table of Contents. I pretty much took a 6-month break from the TR to get married, so I had to include some pictures of it in there! :goodvibes

It was pretty hilarious! All accidental, of course...big paws, loose straps, it was bound to happen.:rotfl: That shirt, however, has been officially retired from my Disney wardrobe!

How funny, that I got a pic of your armadillo! They're so cool...maybe I'll buy one for myself, this time.

Don't cry! My days are in the clear right now, but that'll probably change so here's what I'm reminding myself: It's not like it rains all day in FL usually -- it'll probably just rain for a few hours here and there, right? And photos often turn out better in cloudy skies than bright sunshine...

I should probably start thinking about packing...I'm not even sure what to bring, for this kind of weather. Jeans, T-shirts, and sweatshirts? And of course ponchos? What do you think?

Sigh, girl I am in a packing quandry right now! And I have to pack for my 3DD's as well and I don't know what to pack. Obviously I'm thinking ponchos and umbrellas now, thanks to accuweather:headache:. The temps are supposedly going to be around the 60's so I guess we'll do the layering thing...long sleeve shirt underneath and short sleeve shirt on top. Definitely jeans and capris. A couple of sweatshirts for my girls and light jackets as well. I guess sunscreen is a moot point now though! But you're right, pictures do look nicer when it's overcast, particulary between the hours of 10-3 when the sun is very high. But I will not stress, I will not stress, I will not stress!

Well, at least we won't need long underwear! That's something to be grateful for, anyway!

:scared1: Seems like Pooh and Tigger behave very differently when no one is there to watch :rotfl: Oh my!!!!

I've only been during one Flower and Garden Festival and it's true... Epcot is really breathtaking!

Great update Nory!

I love the photos! And the commentary that went along with them.

That's cool that you got to have a character moment.

If only it happened in October, it'd be my favorite time to go! :goodvibes

Hi, GB, how're you doing?

I can't believe I'm heading back to WDW tomorrow! I still have to pack and everything...once I'm home, I hope to be able to finish up this TR (only 2 more updates to go, I think) and move on to the next one pretty quick!

I can't believe I'm heading back to WDW tomorrow!
:cool1: Congrats! I am a bit green with envy now. I have to take the dog to the vet tomorrow. Somehow, it just isn't quite as exciting. Now if the vet installed a monorail, then we'd have something.

Hey Nory, I wanted to wish you a fabulous trip! I hope you're all packed. Have a great time, you sure picked a great week for Florida weather (I apparently didn't:laughing:). Looking forward to the TR when you return!:thumbsup2

I must have forgotten you were off to Disney again so soon! And you are thinking about a March trip?? Ya, I'm jealous. I think I need to write a book....

ENJOY! Have a magical trip!!!!

Hi everyone! I got back on Saturday, but been stuck working too much since then to really get on the DIS...

This was kind of a weird trip. It was so quick -- just three nights -- and too chilly for any relaxing in the sunshine, so it genuinely felt like a research trip more than a vacation. Which it was, so I guess that's OK! Plus it was very productive, in that regard; I have the first quarter of the book totally figured out in my head...now I just have to see if I can write the thing!

I'm not going to do a TR for it, but once I've loaded the (relatively few!) pics I took, maybe I'll do a mini-TR post here.

3pp, were you there right before me? I know we were just missing each other, but I can't remember if you were going right before or right after. Did you get stuck with all the rain? I missed it, but it was cold enough in the mornings and evenings to make all those boat rides to and from the WL a bit painful...I don't know if I'd rush back in January anytime soon!

And now the truly exciting news: The March trip is off. But for a very good reason! My other sister has decided it's time to bring my 3-year-old niece for her first visit. So we're going for five nights in early April, just me, my mom, at least 2 out of 3 of my sisters, and my niece! A real girls' trip!

Of course I'm in charge of all the planning. Help! I haven't been to WDW with a 3-year-old since I was a kid, myself! :goodvibes

Hi Nory!!! Glad you had a pleasant trip!!

And I think that's GREAT news that you get to plan a trip with your sisters and niece!! That will be so much fun! It will be great to see your nieces' face light up when she sees the characters for the first time!!
