I was wondering if DISer's have their flat panel TV's mounted on a wall or do you just have it set-up for a viewing on a tv stand?

I should try to make this a poll. ::yes::

We are in the process of moving. We are thinking of mounting our tv over the fireplace in the living room.

Just wondering if those that have their tv's mounted, do they like viewing it up on a wall or do DISer's perfer to view their tv's while on a tv stand?

We have never mounted our tv on a wall and we are thinking of doing it.....

My living room TV is on a stand, only because we didn't want to go to the trouble w/ the other add-ons (blue ray, speakers, wii) and their wires.

Our TVs in our den, and in our bedrooms are all wall mounted, with built in DVD. Mine in my bedroom, is on a swivel mount so I can move it to watch in bed, or while on the treadmill at the other side of the room.

We have one on the book case in our family room but not mounted on the wall. Our other tv is on a tv stand in our tv room. Sit in a chair and look at where a tv would be mounted on a wall above a fireplace for 30 minutes and see if you still think it is a good idea to have it up that high. It is not a comfortable height to watch tv.

Thats what I was thinking....but seems more and more people are doing that....

I am wondering if I were to do that would I like it or hate it?

Our broker said everyone is doing it now. The living room is huge so in my case it would not be due to lack of room.

I think it depends on how far back the main seating is from the TV. If it is far enough back you wouldn't be craning your neck as much.

If everyone jumped off the bridge, would you do it too :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I wouldn't do it. It is just too high to watch comfortably. The top of the TV in our family room that is on the bookcase is about 6" above the mantel (next too the fire place) and that is bordering on being too high. The top of the tv comes below where the bottom of a tv hung above the fireplace would be. The only comfortable way to watch that would be laying on the floor.

My DH said to me after, if he was lying on the couch watching TV, he would have to stare up so high and he was not for that happening at all.

:thumbsup2 lol, I hear ya!!!! :lmao:

And ITA w/your post. ::yes::

But why is it so popular???

that's what i always thought when i saw a tv up there. i live in florida where we don't need to use the fireplace much. my parents put theirs right where the fireplace opening is. no fires for them now! it really is the perfect spot!

We have a 50 inch plasma and weighs a ton. There is no way I'm mounting that bad boy on the wall. Besides we have too much crap wired too it with the playstation and the tivo and the dvd player and whatever else. It's sitting on/in a VERY large entertainment unit.

The other thing I'm not real thrilled with mounting on the wall is having to drill the walls to hide the cords. These tv's break or cable messes up or whatever and I could see that being a mess to fix.

Flat screens mounted over fireplaces look great in magazine ads. You want your tv screen at eye level from where you are seated while viewing. If you're over 6 ft tall and sitting in a high chair, over the fireplace may be just the place for you. Mounted on the wall is fine as long as it's at eye level from where you'll be watching.:)

We have our 52" flat screen hanging on the wall and I love it all the wires are hidden behind the wall. Then I bought a nice long cabinet to go underneath which has all the components. We had someone install it :thumbsup2

Our TV is on the wall above the fireplace. At first I thought I would'nt like it as I am a very short person. But I enjoy it with my feet up and my laptop on. LOL. We have no wires showing because we had all the outlets and cable access put in the right place when we remodeled.

In the entertainment center (TV stand). Our neighbors, however, have theirs mounted on the wall in their living room. Seems kind of high, to me.

We have a 46"(?) mounted on the wall and I love it! I have a nice cabinet underneath that holds our game systems and movies behind doors so it's all hidden from view. Plus all the wires are covered by one of those wall covers that you can paint to match your walls. Viewing is very comfortable since all of our furniture is high back, you just sit back, relax and listen to the surround sound.

Our TV is on it's stand sitting on the fireplace mantle (hello Florida). Anyway, I thought it would be too high, but it has been wonderful. The couch is a good 12 feet away and I don't feel like I am lifting my gaze at all. This is especially nice when I am in the kitchen looking into the family room. Now, my DH had a brilliant idea to raise it up about 8 inches in order to utilize some weird box thing. Now, that looked heinous and I said "no way".

It's popular because it saves so much space and there are no visible wires. We have one swivel bracket and one that tilts. We love them!

I voted other, because we have both. Our 32 and our 40 inch are wall mounted, but our 52 is on a stand. That one is in a corner so it can't be wall mounted. It is fine to us like that. The 32 is up high on the wall, so we can see it from the elliptical. The 40 inch is on the wall, because there isn't room on the dresser for the tv and the blu ray and satellite box.
As far as over the fireplace, I really think while it looks nice, it's too high to view comfortably.

The one in the livingroom is on a TV stand, the one in the kitchen is an under cabinet mount and the one in the bedroom is on top of the chest of drawers.

I am not a fan of TVs above the fireplace, they sit far to high for optimal viewing unless your standing. TVs should be at eye level (middle of the screen at eye level) when in the normal position for the room (ie. sitting or standing). Outside of comfort, there are also viewing angle issues with some screens (LCD). Most LCDs can be seen side to side (180 degree angles) fine, but the image can start to look washed out when looked at on various parts of the vertical axis.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think we will likely just leave the tv on the stand we have for it. :thumbsup2

BUMPING for more responses.
