Flat Iron Advice

I LOVE my Sedu!!!!! I have very think and curly/wavy hair and this makes it look like I was born with straight hair. My stylist is amazed that I can get such great results. Although, I will say that I have to do it in 5 sections and it takes 30 minutes, but I can go every other day, so that isn't too bad.

Both DD and I have thick, curly hair...we love our Bedhead 2" straightener...they are $68.99
The 1" straighteners just don't work as well...and it takes forever to do our hair!

I spent a fortune on a Centrix/Cricket for DD for the 18th Bday. It was recommended over the Chi because it has temperature settings. She loves it and it has held up really well being drug all over creation when she gets ready to go out at friend's houses.

My aunt sent me a cricket flat iron for my 21st birthday 4 years ago, and its still going strong! My mom has one too, can't say enough wonderful things about it. She also recommended it over the CHI

i have a hot tools one that i got for around 50-60 at a beauty supply store. i got it because it was the size i wanted - 1 inch, had the temperature settings up to 450, and i liked the overall design. so far i have been very happy with it.

i used to use super wide ones back in the day (i have been using flat irons for over ten years now!) and they were much heavier. it was also before they made ceramic and the metal plates are awful compared. the wider flat iron saved no time, you run your hair thru so it takes the same amount of time and it can be much harder to handle.

I agree with the previous posts on the Babybliss... it works great and I found mine at TJ Maxx for $25!

I *used* to love Chi I had one that lasted like 5 years, but they are crap now. In the last 14 months I have gone through 2. They come with a 1 year warranty, but you pay 9.95 to use the warranty and it is one year from your initial purchase, not when you get a replacement. They dont last long.

Babybliss works well but gets too hot, I fried my hair. But if you have thicker longer hair, this one would be good.

I just got a Sedu, so far I love it. I have only had it about a week. It has a 2 year warrantly.

If you have shorter thinner hair get the one inch. If you have longer or thicker hair, get the bigger iron. I have long thick hair, I prefer 1 and 1.5 to 2 inches. The one inch one just meant having to do more little sections of hair and it took longer. So it depends on your hair type & length.

I do recommend a heat protection spray, I use the CHi one.

I buy my flatirons from folica dot com.

I have (after a reccommendation from my hairdresser) a FHI. It works better than the CHI in my opinion and is slightly cheaper.

I'm excited to finally be able to share a great product w/ my dis friends, after learning about many from you over the years. Remington Style Therapy Frizz Therapy Iron!!!! I've been a loyal CHI girl, had 3 over the past 10 years or so, they are good, but do seem to lose effectiveness over time. Mine was still working, but starting to not straighten my hair as well, which the other 2 had also done, but with our trip coming up (we leave tomorrow! Our 1st trip!), I did'nt want to spend so much for a new Chi, so I went to Walmart just to check out what they had. I took a gamble on the Remington, and I LOVE LOVE it! It works better than my CHI by far! I have a little past shoulder length very thick, coarse, frizzy hair, that needs a lot of conditioner, product and heat styling to get it tame. I can get it looking smooth but it takes some work (which is why it's in a pony tail every other day). Supposedly, this flat iron has anti-frizz, built in conditioner something-or-other infused in the plates, it won an innovation award from Good Housekeeping, and is supposed to keep hair frizz free from humidity for 15 hours.

If you google flat iron good housekeeping, the article about it pops up. I paid $50 at Walmart, I think they have them at Target also. I can't vouch for it's long term use, as I just bought it a month ago, but I'm going to get a 2nd one next month, to have on hand, just in case they stop making them, I like it that much! I carefully opened it from the top and slid it out, in case it did'nt straighten well, so I could return it, but it's a keeper! My hair dresser commented on how soft and smooth my hair was, because usually the only good hair day I have is when I get a haircut and she straightens it for me. Now, the real test will be in Orlando next week, frizz free in amimal kingdom? We'll see!

LOVE my Chi. I will never use a cheapie agian. I have had mine almsot 2 years with no problems. It does a great job on my hair, and DD's as well every morning!

I have to defend my cheapie..I have a conair that I paid about 20 for and it works as well for me if not better tham my MIL's CHI does.

In my personal experience, my hair gets just as straight with Hot Tools ($35) as it does with Chi. However, my hair stays straighter with the Chi. If you don't have very curly hair this might not be an issue.

I kept buying DD17 and I "cheapie" straighteners and they kept breaking.

Then about 3 years ago, I broke down and bought 2 Paul Mitchell straighteners.

They are the best, we won't use anything else.

Thank you everyone for all the advice! After much research and reading all the feedback, I opted to try the GVP from Sally's. So far, I really like it. Also, a little Argan oil goes a looong way The GVP was on sale for 59.99, normally 69.99.

I've been using the same Chi for about 3 years & enjoying it, but I need a new one.
I was going to buy another Chi. Now, I may look into some of these other brands that have been mentioned.

Really? I've owned ours for about 3 years. All 3 of us girls have past shoulder length hair. We (myself and dd) used Chi's when they first came out. After a couple of years, a friend of mine had a Paul Mitchell and I tried it. LOVED IT!!! So much so, that another friend of mine owns a local salon and owns the Paul Mitchell School in town, so I asked her about it. Much better than the Chi.! And we've NEVER had a problem with ours. In fact, we're getting ready to order another one, because dd is getting ready to move out, and we can't decide who gets to keep it!

Purchased a CHI for my daughter for christmas..It was 100.00 but supposed to be the best, she loves it and it is supposed to be better on your hair then the rest..

My sister swears by the Croc. Funny.. I was just looking online tonight for one for dd's 14th birthday. She had been using a hand me down Revlon one but it's garbage. She has fairly fine hair but it has a bit of natural wave that she hates.
Now I'm torn with all the different opinions on this thread. I'll keep researching but I am leaning towards the Croc.
