Flash pictures in rides - isnt this a no-no?

I see a bunch of pics in the picture thread of people that took flash pictures inside rides.

I thought that this was something you should not do - for a few reasons.

1) It's rude to other riders (even not in your own car, the flash travels)

2) I thought it makes the paint fade - causes color deterioration.

3) it's rude to other riders.

Doesn't common sense tell you to turn it off?

I suppose this is a no-no, but tons of people take pictures. There isn't really a way to enforce this short of taking away cameras during rides.

i never heard of the flash "fading the paint".

i know it's not supposed to be done. i don't do it, but i don't freak out when other people do it. i know that when they did the reopening of POTC they LET people take a ton of flash pictures and video when Johnny Depp rode the ride. so apparently it can't do THAT much damage.

i think for the most part they don't want you doing it because of the "Disney Magic" that might be ruined for little kids. like seeing cords or wires or something that you're not supposed to see while riding the rides.

We rode POTC a few months ago and people where constantly taking flash photos, it really ruined our ride and it was very annoying.

On some rides you can't use flash, well, let's face it, most all of them, but some rides don't. For example, it's a common misconception that you can't on POTC where they never say anything about flash photography, at least not on the old version. IASW also doesn't prohibit it and neither does the great movie ride (that one I may be wrong about, but I'm pretty sure not).

Small World and Great Movie ride are not dark rides, but POTC is. I too have been on a boat with a constant flash taker. It is very distracting to others and ruins the dark effect. Not to mention I have had people sticking their cameras practically in my face to get a clear shot if I am sitting on the outside. Please let others enjoy the ride as it was meant to be.

I don't take pictures inside rides, if I want a picture of the ride, it's a lot more beautiful to take it with the sign outside, the background is nice... and when you show your pictures, you can see that you went in so and so ride... either than that, I tape some of them, just little parts with my camara, that has no light, I put on night vision for POTC... but did not see the new version yet...

We rode "Universe of Energy" last year and through the entire ride a man in front of us was taking video. You talk about distracting. The screen on his camcorder was lit and that was all I could see. I was so annoyed :furious: .

I have never understood why people take pictures or videos of the rides at all, flash or no flash. I might take a picture of a person in front of the ride, but not of the ride itself.

Think of all the stuff photographers miss when they are taking pictures instead of enjoying themselves. I'd rather have memories than pics.

One time when we were riding Dinosaur, someone videotaped the whole ride with thwir video light on. I don't know what showed up on their tape, but it was like riding with a lighthouse beacon.
One interesting thing though; we got to see why that ride is kept so very very dark. The dino 'skins' don't extend very far onto the bodies. We go to see all the machinery that makes up the inside of the dino bodies thru the entire ride.

This is a great example of why I agree with LiLIrishChick63 when they said it ruins the magic. When people inside take pictures it ruins the magic. Think of Stitch, imagine having a camera flash right when stitch disappears, that would ruin the "how it works" which would ruin the show (not that it can be ruined much more, but it's just an example.)

Someone was taking flash pictures when we rode Spaceship Earth last weekend. It was a bit annoying to me. I just didn't want to see the "guts" of the ride that showed up with each flash. :sad2:

I'm pretty sure they ask you not to take flash pictures on The Great Movie Ride.....

yes, they definitely ask for NO flash pictures.

We rode POTC the other day with a kid that kept taking flash pictures. Very annoying and you could see even with the flash the pictures weren't any good.

People could probably find much better pictures online (especially on the official WDW site or other pictures that were taken for promotional reasons) than they'll ever be able to take as passengers on the ride.

Flash pictures can and will over time fade paint and fabric. However, it would take daily exposure for a period of years for this to become a problem. Still it is better to just stop the practice then have to worry about it at a later date.

Also, remember that flash photography is actually DANGEROUS when it comes to some rides. There are a few rides that do use live actors mixed in with the sets and effects. A flash at the wrong moment could cause one of these actors to injure themselves.

I wish everyone would just follow the signs!

No, I don't use my flash in places that I'm not supposed to. But remember, that people can take decent shots in some of the "dark" rides without flash, all depending on your camera and the different settings/features that your camera has. That, I have done.

Wow. I can't believe that anyone has had an experience ruined because of a flash. That person might be a bit too sensitive. BTW, there is no way that paint or fabric has ever been ruined by a flash or a million flashes for that matter. If it is supposed to be dark would anyone notice anyway? I personally would not use a flash on a non flash ride but it would not ruin my ride if someone else did. :confused3

Some people like to do (and have) both. Ride for the fun and ride to photograph so they can relive and share it later.

I never take flash pics when it is prohibited, but there are a great many rides where it is allowed and I love to see these throughout the times between trips.
