Has anyone done this? My 4 yo daughters favorite animal is the flamingo (solely because they're pink :))

Is it as fun as it sounds :)
Is there any charge?
Can toddlers/preschool age kids do it - are the flamingos aggressive at all?
Anyone know what time this is at?

Thanks!

eta: Now I'm thinking I read something wrong somewhere along the way ... it looks like you can't actually feed them! I guess you watch them get fed? Maybe?

I'd love to know about this-I've always wanted to do it at AKL, but haven't, mostly because it is for kids, which I'm not (but I've got grandKIDS, does that count?) If I remember, it's in the morning around 9:00 or 9:30. I'm pretty sure there's no charge.

From the allearsnet webpage:

Any special programs?

Yes, there are a number of special programs offered throughout the day at AKL. Be sure to ask for a list when you check-in to the hotel. A sampling of the recent programs offered at the resort (all programs subject to change without notice):

--flamingo feedings at the Flamingo Pond
--animal tracking at Arusha Rock
--Music of the Savanna in the Sunset Lounge
--wildlife games in the Sunset Lounge
--African games and crafts on the Uzima Pool Deck
--cultural safari in the Sunset Lounge
--animal viewing with Night Vision
--Adventure Camp for children 6-14 that includes ostrich egg painting, private lodge tour and lunch overlooking the savanna.
--Cookie decorating at Boma

Outside, at the Arusha Rock, there is nightly African storytelling next to Ogun's Firepit. (Storytelling is held indoors in the event of inclement weather.) If you have the opportunity, take the time to speak with the storytellers

You'll have to come back after your trip and let us know if your DD was able to see the Flamingo feeding. And if she did, if the flamingo is still her favourite bird. Something tells me that she doesn't know just how badly flamingos stink. No polite way around it. They really smell bad.

Just FYI, the last time I was there my Dh and I stumbled across this after eating breakfast at Boma and you do NOT feed the Flamingoes. The animal workers were feeding them and you could stand and watch and ask questions and they told some nice facts about flamingoes. But the flamingoes were still in their little habitat area and no one is allowed inside. But if your daughter loves Flamingoes I am sure she would enjoy this. We liked it and were glad we happened to catch it, but it isn't worth a special trip over there or anything.
