Okay, this warm weather has inspired me plus I really need to lose weight before we go to WDW in Aug, otherwise I won't be able to keep up. So, I'm going to start using my treadmill or walking outside - 2 days in a row I've walked for a half hour around the neigborhood. Gotta start somewhere right? Well on to my question.

I have seriously flabby upper arms and need to do something about them. I have free weights, 5lbs I think, but I don't know what exercises to do, how many and how often. I used to belong to a gym and just used the machines there but I can't afford that membership anymore. I'm sure I'll need new weights eventually but hopefully the ones I have will be a good start.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, honeymo78! Welcome to WISH! :)

Here is a link to some arm-workout information on the Muscle and Fitness Hers website. :)

You might want to look through a copy of this magazine if you can find a current issue at the store. It is usually full of great weight training information.

Glad to see you here and to know that you aren't afraid of a little exercise! I walk around my neighborhood for exercise, so I totally support your decision to walk in your neighborhood! :)

Good luck and hope to see you posting here frequently!

Thanks for that info, TigH! I really hate my flabby arms. I've been working with dumbbells to try & tone them but I wasn't sure I was doing it right. I just bookmarked the links you suggested as a reference.

Way to go Glo! All that muscle, you make me jealous. Guess I have to find some sort of something when I get back from DL, so I can show off to my family in May.

I do a few of the methods shown above. I use three pound weights and do a total of 30 repititions, sometimes I do 10-break-10-break-10 and sometimes I do 12-break-10-break-8-break. And I always do the triceps and the biceps in one session.

You guys are shaming me into dusting my weights off!!!! D'oh!

Good for you, Glo! Just make sure you use those muscles for good, not evil! ;) hee hee!

If you are new to weight lifting, make sure you don't exercise the same muscle two days in a row. You need to give your muscles a chance to relax and rebuild.

For examle, if you work your biceps on Monday, try not to work them again until Thursday. The muscle tissue needs time to repair and grow. If you work the same muscle too much in one week you won't see any gains.

There should be some information on planning your workout on the M&F site that I linked to.

Maybe this is the week I really start lifting weights again. I have been saying that for ages but it is sleeveless shirt season here and my upper arms are flapping in the breeze! ;)

Above all, don't give up! Muscle burns more calories than plain old fat. You'll never get big and bulky unless you take steroids, so you'll have a very sleek, feminine build. :) It takes time, so stick with it and in three months you'll be a whole new you!!!

Arms were something that I never had to worry about for a long time but now I can't wait to get them toned up again. I really want to be able to wear spaghetti straps and sleeveless tops again! Thanks for the links! :)

Last summer my son told me that my arms were just like his grandmother Johnson's. This was not a compliment.

I'm off to get some weights and check out those links. I don't know if there is any help for me though :(

I have been doing the regime above for about a month. I am upto 15 repetition of each exercise above and I do them three times. It also helps to change the routine around so your muscles get used differently. I do it everyother day. So, basically M,W,F Sun, and then T, Th, Sat.....etc

I can actually feel a difference, though I do not see a big difference. If you touch my upper arm, you can feel muscle underneath. Not mush :) I still have a lot to go, but it is a start.
