I'm considering relocating and I'm curious about how high Florida property taxes are.
Here in Pa. they hammer us with high school taxes that constantly go up to the point where some of our seniors lose their houses, and with Rendell as the Gov it will only get worse.
On the average around here a home valued at $100,000.00 costs about $2,400.00 a year in property taxes.

Like anyplace else, it depends on the county and the city. My in laws live in New Port Richey, which is about 20miles N of Tampa and about 90 min from WDW. Their house is worth about $125,000 and they pay about $1700 in taxes

I'm from PA also and we pay about $4000 in school and property taxes. And we are in what is still considered a rural area. We owned a second home in Melbourne Beach, FL for many years and the taxes there were considerably less, although I don't remember the exact figure. Like Crankyshank says, it just depends on where you locate.

Our taxes on a house valued at $120 (although I would sell it for much more) are $1,750. However we pay a sales tax on everything (except food) which is very new to me because we are from NH which has no sales or income tax. Of course our property taxes were much higher - but at least those are tax deductible.

We pay sales tax on everything but food and clothing here on top of the high property taxes.
They recently passed a bill to allow slot machine in Pa. and the revenue is supposed to help offset the property tax but I'll bet we won't benifit much from it, and I personally think bringing gambling here is a bad idea.
Just another reason to leave the state.

WOW!!! Your taxes are high!!! :p Do you live in a treehouse? :)

I'm sure you mean your house is valued at $120,000.

How did you fair from the hurricane? A woman, who lived here in NJ and retired to Winter Haven, lost her mobile home. :(

I recently paid around $250,000 for my house in Windermere. The taxes are about $2500.00. Florida allows fulltime residents to file for a homestead exemption which drops the taxable value on your home by $25,000.
