So my husband and I have permanently moved to FL 19 months ago. My son and grandson are visiting in February. Am I able to purchase all the tickets or just my husband and mine? I am so out of the loop on everything Disney. We haven’t been to Disney world since my son was a teenager…he’s 34 now. I was at Disneyland about 5 years ago when my youngest brother got married and the whole family went to DL for the day. My grandson is 7 years old and really want to take him to DW. My son messed up his knee and doesn’t want to do multiple days. Magic kingdom for one day will work. Even thinking 1 day with a hopper (if available). Any advice?

As grandparents you can purchase Florida Resident tickets for yourself and your grandson. When you provide proof of residency (online or in person) it will qualify for the grandchildren under the age of 18. Your adult son would have to buy a regular ticket (non-resident).

Yeah there’s sort of a loophole there where kids are concerned, because they don’t need to provide ID or confirmation of living in state. If there are Florida Resident adults in the party, they can buy FL Res tickets for the kids. Adults will always be thoroughly checked though.

I remember years ago reading that this was a deliberate loop hole by Disney. They knew many grandparents retired to Florida and would have grandchildren visiting or staying during vacations. They wanted grands to be able to bring at reasonable costs children to the parks. It would be a great way to tap in to a market that might not have come otherwise.

Makes sense. Either the grandparents are the sole guardian bringing the out-of-state children, or the out-of-state parent(s)/family are joining too. More pros than cons overall for WDW - where increase in attendance is still worthwhile and not dropping per capita spending averages too much.

I was wondering about this too. I have some family coming to visit and the kids are 6 and 4. It sounds like getting the kids ticket would be fine, but I am not sure how it works. If I do residency verification online, then will I still need to show my ID when I go through the turnstiles?
