FL residents can't pick up tickets from electronic kiosks?

I went to Islands of Adventure on Saturday with several friends who are FL Residents. I have an AP but others needed to pick up their tickets at the gate which they had purchased online days before. We get to the gates at about 9:30am and proceed to the electronic kiosks to get their tickets only to be told that FL Residents need to wait in the normal line to redeem their tickets and they could not pick them up at the electronic kiosks.

By that time, all the ticket lines were packed and we wasted probably 45 minutes in line to get the tickets printed.

Is this something that they just started doing? It made no sense and everyone was yelling at the people at the ticket windows. What's the point of buying your ticket in advance if they still make you wait in line?

The last time I used a Kiosk for FL resident tix was about 2/3 years ago. If I recall correctly we had no problem claiming the tix. They may have checked our Drivers License at the gate. Thats ridiculous if they penalize you for being a resident by making you waste time in a line.

Disney does the same thing. I absolutely, 100% agree with it. I also agree that it's a pain in the ****, but DH and I read the instructions when we purchased the tickets online and planned extra time accordingly. SOO many people who aren't FL resident purchase the FL tickets online and think they can get away with it. Getting the FL ID at the ticket booth is how they stop it. How would you like to be stuck in the turnstile line behind the non-FL resident who purposely purchased the wrong ticket and is now throwing a royal fit.. and blocking the turnstile. It's much easier to take the anger at guest services.

That's the way I thought it was done. You would have to show your ID at the gate but I didn't think it was an issue to purchase via electronic pickup. That said...Since Universal changed their policy on purchasing FL resident tickets, I imagine it's gotten tougher now since only FL residents can purchase and use the tickets. It used to be anyone could use the resident tickets...that's not the case any longer. If you want the discount, you have to be willing to stand in line for it. It's the same with AP discounted tickets too. You have to stand in line to purchase them.

We picked up our FL Resident passes on Sunday and were also told we had to do it at the ticket counter. I assumed it was to check our FL IDs, as they asked to see both mine and DH's. A little inconvenient, I guess, but it there wasn't much of a wait, so it wasn't a huge deal to us. :confused3

We went late to pay less for parking and went on a couple of quick rides when we went to pick up our APs.
