Exciting news!! My DH got the job promotion he has dreamed of and we're moving to Orlando!! We are so excited and I'm already thinking WDW! We already have a 4-night cruise booked for May and I was wondering if we could still get a Florida Resident discount and also...how much do FL residents really save? We have a 7-night cruise booked for November of next year and I'm trying to figure out what to do! Thanks! :goodvibes

Congratulations! I would call DCL so you can make a complete price comparison. The FL res rates are at different times of the year, not sure about May or Nov. But definitly call. :thumbsup2

In the past they have refunded you the difference if they offer a FL resident Rate and you booked with the higher rate. I am not sure what the "discount" is, but it can vary.

For instance, when I called on Monday they were offering an additional 10% off the FL resident rate for cruises this month. I asked the lady when they usually start offering the FL resident rates and she told me 30-45 days out.

Happy moving!!!

Congrats on your upcoming move!! And Yes, if DCL offers Fl Resident rates for the dates you are sailing, you will probably be eligible to receive a refund. Once the dates are released, contact your TA or DCL, and they should credit your CC. You will have to provide proof of residency (drivers license, state id, etc-they will tell you what is on the list). My sister just received a huge refund for our upcoming cruise (around a $1000 for a family of 4/cat 6). My parents, also Cat 6, received $750 back.

Thank you everyone! :teeth:

And...that's great news! I'm so glad I will still be able to get the discount! It'll be a couple of months before we are actually living in Florida, so that'll even work out better for us!

Thanks so much! :cheer2:

Just so you know I called again today because we have always enjoyed our November cruise.

As of today, they still have no Florida Resident Rates for cruises past Oct 28, 2006. So just know that you will not need to start thinking about that for awhile.

Do you know where you are moving to yet?? We live at the Kissimmee/Orlando border not too far from the airport.

Goodluck with your relocation and getting the FL rate

In the past we had to show proof of Florida residency, such as a drivers license with our florida address on it, when we checked in at the port. So make sure you get it before you go and they want a florida address to send your documents to.

We got a 3 day cruise last May for 1/2 price. :woohoo:

we live near Leesburg, maybe we will be neighbors?? :confused3 Good luck with your move!!

we are going next November too, we are going on the 11/24/07 cruise. Are you on that one too?? :confused3

Congrats! I hope the move goes smoothly.

I do wish you luck, but Florida resident rates aren't a "given." There are times of year when they're not offered so it's best not to assume that you'll get a discount.

Hopefully your sail dates will be eligible for this reduced rate. :thumbsup2

FL resident discounts are offered on cruises that aren't selling out as fast as DCL would like--so not all cruises get FL resident discounts. They generally come up 30-60 days before the cruise, and DCL will give you the appropriate discount (read that as a refund) if you qualify. There is a web site where you can view current FL resident discounts, but I think it's not allowed to be referenced here.

Many TAs will track this for you and contact DCL for you is a discount is offered. The amount can be quite substantial depending on the dates/category/number of people.

As to your November cruise--consider booking that while on board in May. Or book it now, and rebook it in May if the deal is cheaper. You'll get whatever the current rebooking while on board deal is (usually 10% off plus $200 stateroom credit on a 7 day)

I asked about this when I booked our cruise and the reservationist told me that they will not automatically give the Florida residents discount to us if it comes out for our cruise, but if we call after we find out the discount is in effect, they will give us a credit. The difference for us would be about a hundred dollars per person sailing.
