FL Resident Discount Questions

First of all, I'm not a Resort Board regular, so please forgive me if these questions bring up a taboo topic (I promise not to ask about refillable mugs or how many people can stay in one room ;) ).

If all goes as planned, we will be relocating to Orlando by April/May this year (woohoo! .:hyper: ). Of course we are looking forward to all of the FL resident discounts, but I do have a few questions about them in regards to the resorts:

1) Do I understand correctly that the FL resident must also be staying at the resort in order to get the discount?

2) If so, are people who live very close to Disney just out of luck because they don't live far enough away to warrant a hotel stay? One of the apartments we've narrowed it down to is literally right across the "border" of Disney property (woohoo again! :hyper: ). If my parents come to visit, I'd rather not have to stay in their room to get a discount. (If so, they just won't get the discount! :teeth: ).

3) Or, am I totally wrong and actually ALL members of the party staying at the resort must be FL residents?

4) Anything else I might need/want to know?

Thanks for any help!

You do have to show a valid ID at check-in. Mine happens to be a FL drivers license. I don't know what they would do if you showed them a out of state license on a FL res. rate.

At Disney I have been asked for my AAA card when I booked a AAA rate. I've also been asked for my passes when I booked an AP rate, so it seems they do check your credentials. Or else I've just been selected to be verified every time. Maybe I look nervous??

When I've travelled to non-disney hotels using a AAA discount I don't think I've ever been asked to produce the card. Maybe Disney is stricter with their policies.

Everyone in the room doesn't have to be a FL resident. No one else in my group (spouse, friends kids or mother) has ever been asked for ID, just me since the reservation is always in my name.

Fl residents do get discounts on Tickets and they do run specials at the resorts for Floridians.

For a resort Fla Res discount - The resident's name must be on the resv and they must have a fla id at c/i.

For Dining Discount - You would be eligible for the Disney Dining Experience membership. You must have a Fla DL and it is $75 per yr. 20% at most Disney sit down restaurants

Tickets - There are various tickets such as the AP or Seasonal or special Fla Res tiks like the Play 4 day pass. Specials benefits come with the AP/Seasonal FLa pass.

You might want to check mousesavers.com or www.allears.com for specific info.

I'm sure this will spark TONS of controversy, but if you check in with your parents, hang out at the resort and actually go home to sleep in your own bed, I won't tell;) . HOWEVER, with more than 2 adults booked in the room, you will have to pay the extra charge anyway. If you don't mind sharing a room with your parents it might be a great way to check out all of the nicer hotels (especially if you split the cost). One reason I like living in south FL is that it is just far enough (3 hrs) to warrant the overnight stay!
