We have 1 free day before heading to WDW and hubby wants to see part of the Everglades.

Is there somewhere good to stay on the east side of the Everglades? Is there a fee to drive into the state park or can you just wander the roads? Any recommendations on what to see or do?

Thanks!

Everglades National Park is accessible near Homestead, Fl and on Tamiami Trail between Miami and the west coast of Fl.
There is a fee to enter the park. There are many motels in Homestead and Florida City that you could stay. WDW is about 4 1/2 north of Homestead by the Florida Turnpike.

If you like to see things while driving, going across FL on Alligator Alley (75) is one good way to get a real feel for the Everglades without paying an entry fee. There are some areas to stop and take airboat rides, etc.

It's a nice drive and you'll see loads of 'gators, and a huge array of birds, as well as the layout of the land.

Perfect. My boys want to see gators and snakes. :crazy2: Me, not so much but I'll do whatever it takes to get to WDW!
