FL Driver's License & Ins. for DCP????

Our Gdaughter is taking her car for the 8 month Fall Advantage DCP (5/19-1/7). She is still in college & lives at home & is on her Mom's car insurance policy (Aquity Ins. Comp.). She is over 21yo.

A call to the ins. comp = must get FL driver's license, FL rental ins., & FL car ins because 8 months is not just a visit - it is residing in FL. ????

Anyone else gotten new driver's license & FL car ins for DCP time that is more than a few months?

What do you think? I realize the need to call other ins. comps - will do that. I'll also call FL BMV, but thought some of you might already know the answers.

This was an interesting adventure! FYI,

1. IN BMV said if in another state for 60 days or more, should get driver's license & plates & ins. for that state. But IN doesn't really care - she said.

2. My Farm Bureau agent said the "insurance world" doesn't care about students going to other states, assuming they "live" at home in their home state other than when away at school time. Same with military.

3. My OP info I got from Gdaughter's ins. comp. was not accurate. The info was from her agency that uses many ins comps for their clients. When that agent called GD's Aquity ins comp = no need to switch ins. to FL, therefore, no need to get FL plates & license. What a relief it is!!

However, she does need to buy Renter's Ins. in FL - but that's easy.

My daughter was in the college program for all but three weeks in 2013. She did not need to get a Florida drivers license and her car was fully insured. Her car is covered under my policy with her being the rated driver.

Yeah that's ridiculous. I took my car and I didn't need anything but my license and proof of insurance.

But you do need to notify your insurance co that you are keeping your car in Florida as it impacts the rate
