FJ getting Supersized

So they finally realized that they needed bigger seats on FJ. Why couldn't they realize this before turning away paying guests. I guess they got enough complaints to warrant a change.

Almost immediately after they realized the amount of guests who couldn't ride, they started saying the modified seats would be coming. It does take some time to design, test, etc the new seats.

Maybe Universal decided that SAFETY was more important then letting the overweight guests ride? Maybe Universal thought that the overweight guests would take responsibility for their actions, and not blame someone else for their own mistakes?

Wow. Glass houses people.

The seats have been in the works for quite some time, they just did not have them ready when the ride first opened and had to wait for them to be made, tested, etc. Would you have rather them hold off the opening for several more months while they waited for those seats? When you say turn away paying customers, that usually means they turn people away who want to pay for something. In this case those people still paid to get in, and many knew about the size requirements from the boards, news articles, etc. and then were unable to ride. When I went I did not see one person get turned away at the ride and I rode it 4 times during the first week it was open.

It wasn't about whether guests were overweight or not...certain body dimensions didn't fit from what I've read, whether they're too tall, have too big of a chest etc. but that doesn't mean they were overweight.

Ok i have to say something about that. So us "overweight people" should just accept that we are scum and that we shouldnt come to the parks? I don't think so. For the most part Universal has been very accessable to us pooh size people. and for you to suggest that because of our "Choices" that we are blaming someone else for our size is showing your stupidty. And what u see as a mistake is in fact our lives. and saying this is just showing how mean and hurtful you are.

I also want to say that Universal is the place that i love to come to because it does for the most part make each ride available to pooh riders. And that is why i love coming here. I am a human being and i shouldnt be treated any different because of my size.

Exactly! A friend of mine is not overweight but has a very large bust and couldnt ride. Timmy - re-think your comments.

From what I understand, there are no new/different seats being made or installed. Instead, the existing overhead harnesses are being modified. Same seat, harness just isn't required to push down as far.

Thanks, It just makes me angry to think that there are people like that so small minded, hurtful and mean. that they would say something like that. Universal is the first park that i have went to that really does accomendate "pooh" size people.

WOW,, This is not good. My daughter and I are small frame large bust and the thought of not being able to get onto a ride because of this is sick. I sure hope they have the problem worked out by our trip in Oct. I hate to think of of the shame of not being able to ride because GOD MADE us all different shapes and sizes. I am a little disappointed in universal for making a poorly designed ride, but glad they are addressing the problem.

I saw a post on the "Who fits onto FJ" thread that stated they already have the oversized seats on the ride already. So it didn't take long at all to plan.

The designers of the seat obviously either didn't think about it before or they didn't care. Bad planning IMO. There were no safety issues since they were able to fix it so fast.

Althought it's been mentioned before, I think most people are missing the fact that the seat isn't any bigger than it was before.
The seat and harness are the same. The locking mechanism has been rotated 25 degrees clockwise, so the ratcheting "clicks" occur higher up.

Unless this guy was being dishonest, that info doesn't match up.

In July I went to Harry Potter and was turned away for being to big at the time I was 6'2 and 303 pounds, this sent me on a goal to lose weight for the next time which would be for rock the universe on september 10th. I was able to get down to 273 pounds by this date and am Happy to report I was able to fit in the regular seats and get four clicks. However I was told they did add modified seating to the track if i was not able to fit in the regular seats, even though I could fit in the regular seats the modified seats were much more comfortable to sit in so I just went in that line instead. The modified seats are only on the outside seats of about every ten benches i would say and the people who work at FJ seem to be very helpful if you just tell them right before the sorting hat that you want the modified seat they will send you down the middle lane. So granted I made my goal and still want to lose quite a bit more weight I am glad that more people will be able to ride this attraction in the future.

So who is right?
