How are the weeks calculated?

Is the first Sunday of January the start of week 1?

Then as I understand it, you buy 10% more points than that week would be as a "buffer".

Then you automatically get that week, but can cancel using normal rules, and the points go into your account (and can be banked)?

Assuming DVC fixed weeks go Sunday to Sunday (I don't know), google "timeshare calendar 2014". I actually like this one - because it lists Friday, Saturday & Sunday starts:

http://www.redweek.com/calendar/?year=2014

Your start date will change every year and those who have a week that includes Christmas or New Year's are not guaranteed to get those holidays every year.

I assume that if you cancel your fixed week, the points you purchased go into your account and behave as any other points would in the use year you purchased. So yes, you could bank them.

If I have given you misinformation, I'm sure someone will post to correct it soon.

What fixed weeks? Are they only for Aulani and VGF? The DVC points system doesn't have fixed weeks. That's one of the reasons we bought 20 years ago.

My understanding is Sun-Sun. Week 1 will always be the first Sun in Jan. For the years it would not be (usually every 6 years), there will be an extra week at the end of the year called either week 53 or week 00 in most systems. Generally that week is owned by the developer who can use it for maint or rent it out, whatever they want. This doesn't affect week 1 owners quite as much as those who own at the end of the year unless they're trying to target Jan while kids are still out of school.

I like this Calendar because it compares years side by side and gives you the option to change between Fri, Sat or Sun.

Thanks, Dean, for the great calendar! The one I have been using requires the use of a drop down menu to change years. Yours is so much more convenient!

Thanks :thumbsup2

You're very welcome but the real credit needs to go to Dick Conklin for creating it and to TUG for linking to it.
