Five years ago, Hurricane Ivan destroyed my hometown...photo gallery

I live in Navarre/Gulf Breeze and it didn't do TOO much to our house. It was just finished being built and we were lucky to only have a few shingles come off.

I remember the news reports from the Dome house. It held up well. :thumbsup2 Looks good!

Wow, what a truly amazing recovery. The town looks beautiful!! I hope that never, ever happens to you and all those folks again. Thanks for sharing that with us.

5 Years, amazing! and they've been working to widen a 5 mile stretch of road in front of my neighborhood for at least that long and they're still not finished. :upsidedow

Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

Ivan was the first storm I dealt with as an adult. It destroyed my home and almost everything I owned. 5 years later I am doing good. It took a lot of help from friends and family but we made it. Thanks for the pics. I know this has been all over the news lately. But they are showing what hasn't been done not what has. It is nice to see the progress we have made.

I was stationed at NTTC Corry Station for Electronic Warfare "A" school in 1984, EW "C" school in 1986-87, and I taught EW "C" school there from 1990-93. My son was born in the Pensacola Naval Hospital (he just turned 17). I love that town and was very saddened to see the damage done by Ivan. There are some mighty fine people who live along the "Redneck Riviera". Glad to see the area is bouncing back.

Last week on the Weather Channel's Storm Stories, they did a segment on Ivan...showed quite a bit of footage from the Dome Home taken during/after the storm.
