RENT may be closed on Broadway, but the Broadway production is currently touring. It's in Boston right now and I just saw it, and wow, it's been in my head all week. I've been watching my "RENT Live on Broadway" DVD every night since. I hadn't seen it since 1997, the 2005 movie was pretty good but not great, and there have been lots of awful tour productions recently. So it was even greater waiting to see Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp reprise their original roles as Roger and Mark. Adam and Anthony are RENT. I missed Idina Menzel of course, I have a huge crush on her! :lovestruc

I wanted to share this about seeing it live this week. My friends and I got tickets in the balcony, and the seats around us were empty for a while as the theater filled up. Just before the show starts, this group of 50 or so teenage kids fills in all the seats around us, they were really dressed up, in that really straight, preppy way. Me, a big fat tranny and my butch dike (DIS-friendly spelling) friends just looked at each other and we thought the same thing, please don't ruin this experience for us. Angel's funeral scene comes up, and it always leaves me in tears. But all those girls behind me were sobbing, like uncontrollably, for a queer drag queen. I couldn't believe it!

For any other RENTheads here, the tour will be coming to Orlando in December, I might have to see if I can make a trip to WDW as an excuse to see it one more time!

My favorite song from RENT: "Another Day / No Day But Today"
There is no future, there is no past;
I live this moment as my last!
There's only us, there's only this;
Forget regret, or life is yours to miss!
No other road, no other way;
No day but today!!!

I saw Rent on Broadway about three years before it closed. When it came to Philly on tour i begged to get tickets but I couldn't convince my parents to buy me tickets. Luckily there was a contest to win tickets from comcast and I won two tickets. My friend and I went to the show even though there was a huge snow storm going on. My friend had never seen the show not even the movie. With that one show she instantly feel in love with it. Adam and Anthony were amazing.The only downside was that the people in front of us were so much taller than us we could barely see (im only 5foot and she is only 2inches taller than me). The last night on Broadway dvd had just come out that day. Even though there was over a foot of snow on the ground allot of people stood outside the stage doors and waited for the cast to come out. I hope it goes on tour again sometime.
My friend that went to see it with me is sort of one of those preppy girls you described.I couldn't believe how much she liked it since every time i tried to get her to watch the movie she wouldn't.

Thanks for the heads up!

But just a word of warning, the Bob Carr performing arts center in Orlando is not the Wang Center! :sad2:

And I'm glad the teenagers "got it"! :thumbsup2

I :love::love::love:RENT.

Nelson took me to see it at the Providence Performings Arts Center for I think our very first Valentines Day in 2000... He had no idea how to buy theatre seats (I am a first mezzanine front row center kinda girl - I am too short for floor seats and think you can see everything better from my fave location... all the dancing in Riverdance and Dirty Dancing... amazing from that location!)
so we ending up in a corner somewhere in nosebleed... I knew practically nothing about the show prior and didnt know much when we left except that I loved the music.

We saw the movie and I fell in love with the story, the characters (and the guy from Law and Order :cloud9:).

Last year, I think for my birthday, Nelson took me into New York City to see it! There are no words to describe how amazing it was...

We knew that there last show was coming up, so when we got home we bought tickets for the 2nd to last show (last was sold out)... then they extended the closing... I was happy to see it carry on but disapointed because I had just spent $$$ on what I thought was the second to last show... Anywho, it didn't matter... NELSON AND I BOTH FORGOT WE HAD THE TICKETS AND FORGOT TO GO!!!! :eek::eek::eek: I thought about it the next weekend and was like, when are we going back to see RENT?

Yeah... :sad2:

OMG, nooo! I would have loved to see it at the Neederlander Theater. Did you know the show that replaced it, Guys and Dolls (with Loren Graham, whom I love!) has already closed b/c of poor reviews and ticket sales. RENT should have never closed in the first place!

I lived in Orlando for year, and never saw a show at the Bob Carr. But that's where RENT is coming, Dec. 1-6th. Tickets are not on sale yet, but I'd love to see it with you! I hope Anthony and Adam are still with the tour by then. Maybe a DIS meetup?
I see it is slated to be replaced with a new theater / performing arts center in 2012.

:rotfl2:

Sure OK if you say so!

Let me catch you up on things! Orlando was supposed to get a new arts center along with a new Basketball arena. One is almost done, they haven't even broken ground on the other!

Can you guess which one is which? :confused3

When Lion King came to the Bob Carr they had to take out about 300 seats to make the show fit! Yes, it's that bad!

I never did get to see this on broadway :guilty: but I have watched about 4? different productions. However I was very excited when I heard about this tour and got tickets right away! ( I also walked home with an autographed tour poster!)

I NELSON AND I BOTH FORGOT WE HAD THE TICKETS AND FORGOT TO GO!!!! :eek::eek::eek: :

can I add :eek::eek::eek:! :hug:

I know... :sad2::sad1::sad2::sad1::sad2::sad1::sad1:

On top of missing the show (which was bad enough) there went close to $300 out the window.

:guilty: That just stinks! I know sometimes, in the summer, we get tickets for shows and really have to force ourselves to go because we are so tired!
Such a bummer.

On the cast bus out of the MK, this song plays on the loop. And it seems like it would always be on when I was leaving. It took forever to get the song stuck out of my head. The worst part was, I would only hear little bits of it like the chorus because of every one else talking.

My managers one time was joking about Avenue Q. It sounds interesting enough to want to go see it. I've listened to some of the songs and it sounds funny.

Kari's a huge theater person, was a techie in middle/high school and college. But we've never been to anything since we've met. Not unless you count the one show at UM because it was free. Since UM is not a theater school, so "the ring" is a bad example of a theater.

RENT is and will always be a very important part of the theater world. Its story, music, and characters will live on long after the current tour ends.

Tim and I saw the production in NY 43 times and enjoyed every single one! We were lucky enough to go out with some of the cast and to even walk the stage!

RENT will always be an important part of our lives and I urge you ALL to go get tickets and see it while it is still touring!!

"No day, but TODAY . . . "
