So my active 9 year old DS has requested a fitbit or other similar device for his upcoming birthday. Has anyone purchased one for a child around that age. Trying to get a head start on birthday shopping and even holiday shopping this year!!! Thanks!

We bought our 6 year old DD a Unicef Power Band for Christmas, she always wanted to wear my Fitbit. It was much cheaper so not such a big deal if she loses it (she loses so much stuff!) and she feels grown up and calls it her FitBit. It's definitely not as accurate though. I think at 9 I would probably be comfortable buying one of the basic Fitbits.

I had an old Flex that I thought was broken (until Fitbit talked me through re-setting it) and gave that to my daughter. She loves it!

We gave my husband's old fitbit flex to my 8 yr old who had been dying to have one - it wouldn't sync with his phone anymore but still kept count. Kid loved it and wore it for quite some time. He still wants one of his own, we just haven't had a reason to get him one yet.

You can get the fit bit flex for 70-100 on Amazon. My parents just got one for my dd11 who has been wanting one. It will link to their i phone, which is what she wanted to be able to do with it.

FYI if you do buy an actual fitbit for anyone under 13 if you want to use the app you will have to fib about their birthday or it will lock you out.

Yes, I knew about the age 13 profile. I don't own one as I use my garmin running watch but was considering one as an alternative to the watch also. I think this industry is missing out on that age spectrum as many kids are running 5k, getting interested in fitness at such a younger age these days. It would be a great way for schools to also promote health and wellness.

I would only consider the flex for anyone under 16. My DH surprised me with a Charge HR that he got on ebay and it has been working great for over two months. I might check there if you feel comfortable. Semi off topic, the flex battery did not hold a charge well after being worn through airport security.

We test things for my sisters market research company, anyway, right now my 9 yr old Dd (and 4 of my nieces ages 5-9) is testing a MisFit fitness tracker. She LOVES it. There is an app to download, and you can compete with friends to see who has the most points each day. I like the sleep monitor too, knowing if she is getting a decent restful sleep has been interesting. My 12 yr old DD also got a misfit for Christmas. Hers is a lower priced model ($20 on sale), but still does the same stuff- you can find them at Target. It is a bracelet with a circular face like a watch, but has other accessories to wear it on a shoe or clip it to a strap (for ladies). She had 15000 steps yesterday (soccer practice)

My friend's son wanted one and they got him a Flex for Christmas. He wears it everyday.
