We rearranged our schedule at the last minute to accommodate DH's new job. Staying at the VWL for the first time the first week of August. Any tips? I'm a little concerned about the bus service comments that I've read.

We're excited to stay here, it has been on our short list of resorts to visit.

Other than Christmas, I can't think of a better time to stay at VWL than August. Hot outside, calm, cool Oasis inside.

I own at BCV but love VWL. Have stayed many times and the only time the busses were a problem was during the major construction mess of Downtown Disney. We waiting quite a while because the busses were having traffic problems downtown. No problem anywhere else.

LOVE the boat access and used it extensively for MK, Epcot, meal reservations at Monorail resorts, etc., Trails End, and Hoop de Doo. Very, very convenient. Even did several boat rides doing the 'loop' because it was so great.

You will LOVE VWL.

I think all resorts have bus issues. VWL is a wonderful resort, and a nice retreat from the parks after a
long day

I'm biased, but it's a great choice. After a long day at a hot, crowded park, you'll enjoy the serenity and intimacy that is VWL and the WL. Bus service is generally considered above average there, though there is always the possibility for issues at any resort and VWL is not immune. However, you also have the boats to MK and CR which are a plus. As for tips. . .1) put your name in at the front desk to be a flag family; 2) grab a Hidden Mickey hint sheet (also at the front desk); 3) watch the geyser on the hour; 4) take in movie night on the beach; 5) rent a bike or surrey; 6) take a walk down the nature trail (starts beside bike rental); 7) walk over to FW along a paved, lighted path--about a mile one way; 8) sit in the lobby of the Lodge and watch people enter it for the first time; 9) have a drink at the Territory Lounge or Trout Pass Pool Bar; 10) sit in a rocker on the porch at the Villas portion. . .with said drink in hand; 11) dine at Artist Point, one of the top restaurants in the World; 12) sit on the beach and watch EWP and catch the higher explosions of Wishes, too; 13) have fresh-made as you wait Mickey waffles at Roaring Fork for breakfast; 14) relax in the slower-paced Hidden Springs pool or sit in the hot tub there; 15) relax and enjoy the ambiance, from the flickering lanterns to the chirping crickets. Peace and quiet await. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! VWL looks serene and beautiful...we're really excited.

Sleepy Dog, I appreciate all the great tips especially the Mickey waffles!

We just stopped over at VWL last week during our stay at CBR. It was nice to sit in the big rocking chairs in the Carolwood Railroad room in front of the fireplace. Even though it was in the 90's outside.
