Fishing pole poll

What is your favorite fishing pole type ?
Which one or ones are you bring to the Fort ?

Jeff, hold on to your hat. I carry 14 fishing rods in our 5th wheel. All are stored under the queen bed that lifts for storage. My favorites are probably my 3 different weight fly rods. That leaves 11 various spinning rods. From fresh water ultra light to 10ft and 12ft surf rods.

I had a bass boat for 13 years. For large mouths throw away all of your lures (they catch the fisherman, they look good, but they are hit miss on fish). Stick to 6/7 inch black, purple plastic worms. Learn to fish it with differnent retrieves. In my logs they outfish every lure I had by 7 to 1 and they are the cheapest.

Jeff this is such a coincidence, Erica, Matt and I stopped at cabela's on the way home from the hockey game, and cashed in some of my cabela's points for a new real!!!

I got a Shimano spinning real. I can't wait to drown some plastic worms at the Fort in 27 days!!!

We have a few different poles but we'll only bring a couple. I like my Spiderman pole the best,,simple and easy to use.

Hi I so fish, we have a pond in our comunity that is stocked with large mouth bass.

Just got 2 the other night one 13 and one 15. John has me beat with a 18 incher.

All I ever got from the scouts was a fork/knife/spoon combo set,,
would have rather gottn a fish'n pole,

I agree with one post---Shimano makes really good spin cast reels. In the good old days, Mitchell had the market on spinning reels. I had all of the 300 series reels. I got into Shimano when they came out with the first 'Fast Cast Series'. I am an anomoly (bass fishing)---I never use a conventional reel, just spinning reels.
In a prior post I mentioned about using purple or black plastic worms for Big Mouths. My DW (a couple posts above) talks about the 13" & 15" releases she had. Both came on a purple worm.
Yes the pond we fish was stocked eons ago, but there is natural reproduction in the 15/20 acre pond.
It also holds some brutes----Real good Large Mouths, for up north in PA.

PS: Jeff---A real nice outfit--A 6 foot graphite or graphite/carbon medium action rod, with a Shimano and some worm hooks/worm weights and a mix of plastic worms will get the job done for you. Remember vary the retrieve---even agoniazingly slow ; stop, start and on occasion, a twitch.

DD has a Dora fishing pole. Caught the biggest snapper I ever saw at Normandy Farms in Foxboro MA.
Had him just about on shore. I had line in one hand, stick for the mouth in the other, DH was about to step into the water to grab from the rear. And DS came sliding down the slope. DH went grabbing for DS, Line broke and away went Mr. Turtle, hook still in mouth and about 18 inches of line
Dear ole Dad use to set lines along the creek while I was growing up. He made the best turtle soup. Mmmmm!

My favorite is an IM 8 graphite 6' MH spinning rod with a Dawia 2500C reel. I use this in fresh and salt water works great for Striper's Flounder and Lg Mouth Bass. The 1 thing I have found is that simple is better as far as lures go. For the fort I am bringing 3 rods a spin cast for the pan fish a worm rod for the bass and a spinning rod well just because.
For lures. some jig heads and plastics bodies, assorted plastic worms and weight for Texas rigs, some crappie jigs for the pan fish and some spinner baits.

Before we get to DIS, we are spending a week at Myrtle Beach. I have been doing my homework on SC surf fishing and using my kayak to dredge something out of salt water. I know bluefish are in close, but I would rather fly rod a good striper on a popper. Even a few weakfish on shad darts would be fun.

Good luck. Maybe you will hit a 12 lb Big Mouth in FL.

I'll have to get a picture of my fishing kayak and post or bring them to Dis for you.

I have never kayak fished in SC but have done so in NC with good sucess.
We fish the pimlico sound for reds trout and blues. and in the colder months stripers. Do a search on kayak fishing reports in SC
