Fishing on Castaway Cay

Can anyone tell me more about fishing excursions on Castaway Cay? Do you just travel out in a boat, stay in one place, and drop a line in? Or do you go out and "troll" for the fish?

According to Disney's own website, it's bottom-fishing (Drop a line). Personally, I don't think it's worth $110 to bottom fish, especially when it's catch and release (you can't bring back into US). I'd look at a charter boat from the Cocoa Beach area before or after the cruise.

Castaway Cay Bottom Fishing (3 hours)

Cast out your line and reel in the fun on this bottom-fishing excursion into the calm, clear waters of the Abaco Islands. You and up to seven other fishing enthusiasts drop anchor and hone your angling abilities while enjoying the beauty of this outdoor sport. Fishing tackle, bait, soda and water are provided, so you'll have to bring your own camera to make sure you get a picture of "the one that got away."

Participants must be six years of age or older. All children 12 years and younger must wear a life vest.

Adult Price: $110
Child Price: $110 (ages 6 - 9)
Departure Time:9:00 am, 9:15 am (Disney Magic Only), 1:00 pm

OhOh.....I can give some insight into this!!!! My son and hubby and just did this excursion 2 weeks ago!!! They absolutely loved it!! It started out at 9:00 am and it was 3 hours. All equipment/bait was provided. They said they went out about halfway between CC and Abaco Island which you can see off in the distance from CC.

Here is a link to the pics they took....my son caught a huge barracuda....not sure what my hubby caught and the someone else caught a beautiful trigger fish. another person snagged a 5 1/2 ft shark and had it right alongside the boat but it broke away just before pulling it in....my son said it was huge!!!

Obviously we could not take home my son's catch, but the Captain did keep it...for what purpose I do not know!!! My husband is not big on fishing but he said it was a really fun trip and the crew made it fun and interesting!

It is well worth every penny spent! We did it last January and had a ball!

Scratch....my son really enjoyed this excursion!!!! It really was the highlight of the cruise for him! I also agree that it was money well spent since he got so much enjoyment out of it!!!
