Fishing from shore?

I'm planning a trip in November with my daughter and her troop. My SIL is a huge fishing nut. I'm wondering if he can bring his pole and some tackle and shore fish in the evening near BLT? Or is fishing only allowed on paid excursions? Is there any place in reach of Disney transportation where he can shore fish?

Thanks

Catch & release is doable at FW. There's the ole fishing hole at Riverside.

I've seen this discussed a number of times but I've never seen anything official. The consensus seems to be that it's OK from the bank at FW and possibly at OKW but generally not in the populated areas. I'd ask when you get there but plan on getting her over to FW. I don't think it'll be allowed in the BLT area though you can certainly ask.

Fished at Caribbean Beach. Fished there often early morning and evenings. Will be going back there in Aug. Never done great and have alot of shore you can fish. I've been reprimanded by security a few times shore fishing at SSR. They don't want fishing there period. Although still caught my largest one to date on grounds at just over 4lbs makes me always want to try. :)

Thanks for all the info. I think FW is close enough that we will probably do that.

Traveling by air certainly limits one's ability to pack much in the way of fishing gear, but my family stumbled upon telescopic open-face rods/reel combo's at Gander Mountain years ago. I suspect the intended use for these poles is for someone fishing on a kayak or jetski, but they're also perfect for travel. Years back, my father and I would walk the trail from WL to FW to a canal stemming from Bay Lake. In this canal was a large pump that seemed to aerate the water. Needless to say, the fish were very active near this pump, and we landed a few nice largemouth bass with plastic worms. In more recent trips, we have found the pump not active (I'm not sure if it is timed, or if it is simply no longer functional).

In any event, we often see folks in the FW area fishing. You used to be able to buy worms in the bike rental post at FW (maybe you still can), so I have to assume that it is acceptable practice. I recall hearing that so long as you weren't fishing from a dock (i.e. - heavy foot traffic areas), then you were OK. If there are any written rules against it, they sure don't go out of their way to make them known. Usually, in the world of Disney, if you're doing something that is against the rules, they are pretty quick to set you straight.

We fish often when we stay at our DVC resorts. Its tolerated at OKW, but I've been reprimanded at both SSR and BLT. Just recently we tried at the THV, but was promptly run off for good reason, we were fishing off the dock. We shouldn't have been there and we will not do that again. Unfortunately, they just don't allow fishing, in most areas. Its disappointing because, I have had some great father-son time doing so. If I remember BLT, fishing on the beach will draw attention to you very quickly, but if you fish on the opposite side, MK side of the resort, you can get a little fishing in. Remember catch and release and don't leave trash or fishing line behind.
