Can I use my own fishing equipment to fish at POR? I was thinking it would be easier and cheaper to ship my fishing equipment down (jsut a couple of poles that the kids could use) than to rent the stuff there. It seems that my kids will beg to go fishing for hours then spend just minutes doing it.

Thanks,

Jdads2, I remember a thread on a similar topic months ago that got quite heated. I think the consensus was that you may, however, a simple phone call to your resort or perhaps the WDW-PLAY folks would answer this for certain. Please post what you find out.

When we were at POR, there were a couple of men who I spotted fishing some evenings who had brought there on fishing stuff and were fishing the main river, not the fishing hole.

My boyfriend was really jealous cos he loves fishing but he didnt pluck up the courage to go and speak to them to find out if they caught anything.

I called the WDW-PLAY folks and the indeed told me that you can NOT use your own equipment. I will assume that this argument and answer will follow the dreaded "refillable mug" debate.

I am willing to bet that you can't use your own equipment but I doubt if any CM is willing to make a guest unhappy by telling them to stop.

I, for one, plan on bringing all of my fishing equipment and using previously purchased refillable mugs, while letting every CM know it is both my birthday and anniversary!!

...or maybe not.

Jdads2, thanks for the info. Let us know when you land in Mickey-jail due to the use of illegal fishing poles. I’ll be sure to have my resort's concierge deliver to your jail cell a birthday cake (containing the proverbial file), followed by a bottle of champagne (to celebrate your anniversary), and a case of water (because you'll be thirsty after fishing in sunny Florida). And if you’re real lucky, maybe the concierge will grace your cell with an autographed photo of Mickey and a bouquet of balloons (to make it homey in the Disney-style). ;)

(I got a kick out of your post. Sorry to hear that using your own equipment is a no-no.)

DH is an avid fisherman - fresh, salt and deep sea.
Of course, he had to check it out.
Was a waste of time, really just a novelty thing for non-fisherfolks.
Was what we call a small pond that produced zero fish.
Too many other things to do down there.
Needless to say on return trips we skipped that amenity.
I wouldn't go to any expense of taking equipment.
